Chris VandeVelde could be subjected to league discipline after hitting Jonathan Toews with an elbow in the head during the first period of last night’s game. He’ll have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety tomorrow for this hit:
VandeVelde received a minor penalty for the hit, and Toews returned to the ice shortly after, so who knows if that’ll play a role in whether the league suspends VandeVelde or not? In my opinion, I’m thinking he’ll be suspended probably one game. You just can’t make hits like that in today’s game.
As Broad Street Hockey points out, with Jake Voracek possibly returning to the lineup Saturday against the Penguins, this’ll make the decision for Dave Hakstol on who to scratch much easier.
Toew’s is also facing a 1-game suspension for “Getting hurt by Chris VandeVelde.”
