The Flyers Shayne Gostisbehere has sucked all of us back in. The Flyers were looking to be a team on the outside looking in at the NHL playoffs a few months ago, but that’s the beauty of professional sports. Never say never. Ghost has brought a level of excitement single-handedly with his play the last couple months and it’s seemed to have rubbed off on his teammates, who are playing their best hockey of the season without Jake Voracek, and he won’t be on the ice tonight for the eighth game in a row.
Of course, many will [and can] say that Dave Hakstol’s system might finally be implemented to where the players are comfortable and buy in and that’s probably part of it. But they also needed that spark, and Claude Giroux just wasn’t providing it. It doesn’t mean that he can’t, he just didn’t before Ghost came along. Now, the Flyers look like one of the more dangerous teams in the league and are trying to get into the final two Wild Card spots that are currently occupied by the Penguins and Red Wings.
So, tonight is a huge game. A must-win if there ever was one. A must-win in regulation. The Flyers are four points behind the Penguins and three points behind the Red Wings. A win in regulation could improve their chances to make the playoffs dramatically, because they still have games in hand over both teams. To say tonight’s game is the biggest game of the season is an understatement. It is currently the game of the season.
Let’s hear what the Breakfast on Broad crew has to say:
