Skylar Hunter was suspended 50 games back in March for failing a drug test. Now, he has company, as Phillies lefty reliever, Daniel Stumpf – no relation to Donald Drumpf – has been suspended 80 games for performance-enhancing drugs.
The Phillies selected Stumpf from the Royals in the Rule 5 draft in December. Stumpf has to remain on the Major League roster the entire season, or the Phillies must offer him back to the Royals. And, so is such the Rule 5 rules.
Stumpf is a rookie and has garnered a 40.50 ERA in three appearances with the Phillies so far this season.
The Phillies issued the following statement:
The Phillies support Major League Baseball’s Joint Prevention and Treatment Program and are disappointed to hear today’s news of Daniel’s violation.”
