Doug Pederson met with Penn State Nittany Lion alum, Christian Hackenberg, recently and had him work out for him. The Eagles have been linked to Carson Wentz and Jared Goff, and have hosted both and taken them out to dinner, so to be interested in another quarterback isn’t exactly a surprise. In fact, with Pederson being a former quarterback himself, I’m willing to bet he finds that position so important that he’s willing to overlook some of the other positions of need.
Of course, that’s just me speculating. Rumors have been swirling that the Eagles want to select a quarterback in the first round of the draft, but if they can’t move up, they might just trade down if they can’t get their guy. That’s where Hackenberg comes into play.
Hackenberg isn’t exactly leading the list of quarterbacks in the draft, but many expect he’ll be selected in the early rounds. So Pederson worked him out recently and had some great things to say about him.
You know what, I was pleasantly surprised,” Pederson said on Monday. “I had never met him before, I had never talked to him before, I had a chance to go out there and visit with him. Loved his demeanor as a quarterback.”
Pederson spoke with the media Monday and talked about the possibility of moving up in the draft. He said, “Anything is possible.” As for Hackenberg, Pederson likes what he sees. “He’s got all the physical tools, got a great arm, good mobility. There’s just some things he’ll work on going forward. I think he’s another one who has good potential this year and in the future in this league.”
It looks like the Eagles will take a quarterback, whoever it is, in the early rounds. I’d be really surprised if they didn’t.
