Here’s Stephen A. Smith with an Actual Practical Take on Sam Bradford

There’s no denying there are many Eagles fans, and even reporters, are blown away by the last two days regarding the Sam Bradford saga. I’m one of them. And, now with our venom and hatred directed towards Bradford, I don’t think there’s a chance he takes a snap behind center this season in midnight green.

Of course, that may be Tom Condon’s main objective. “Why would you keep a guy who doesn’t want to be here and the fans don’t want him here?” Seems to be a pretty good plan, after all. Ross Tucker would agree. But there was quite a poignant take

Monday on ESPN’s First Take, Stephen A. Smith lambasted Bradford  for being “incredibly childish and weak.” I can’t disagree with him. More from Smith:

I think he has a lot of damn nerves. He needs to get up out of there. He’s got some nerve. He’s acting like a proven commodity who’s getting screwed over when, in fact, all the Eagles are doing is looking out for their future by drafting a quarterback of the future. Sam Bradford didn’t sign a five or ten-year deal. He signed a two-year deal, if my memory serves me correctly. [Editor’s note: Atta boy, Stephen.] So, it wasn’t a long-term investment for him, so why should the Eagles not look for a long-term investment beyond him? It comes across as incredibly childish and weak on his part considering how non-productive he has been. But nevertheless, I would get him out of there, quick, fast, and in a hurry. I’d try to get as much value, obviously, for him as I possibly could.

But, I would caution you this: the Eagles are not a joke. They underachieved last year because of the ego of Chip Kelly. But they are not a joke. So, when you consider some of the pieces that they have in place, it’s one of those situations where they could legitimately compete for a playoff spot in the NFC East. And to jeopardize all of that by drafting and then inserting a rookie behind center in the National Football League, I don’t know how advisable that would be.”

Kudos, Stephen A. For once. Then watch him and Skip, who’s leaving ESPN soon, talk about Chase Daniel.
