The Capitals beat the Flyers 2-0 in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Quarterfinals last night. One of the big stories of the night was how nasty the game got between the two teams. We previously mentioned that Sean Couturier was taken out of last night’s game and the series by a hit by Alex Ovechkin. Now, he’s reportedly out for the remainder of the series.
But, that hit was just the start of things.
Let’s take a look at some of the nastiness in Game 1.
Here’s Ghost getting slashed, which leads to a double minor.

And here’s the result of that cheap hit. It’s a fight between Tom Wilson and Wayne Simmonds, which took both players out for the rest of the game. After losing Couturier, losing Simmonds was a tough one to swallow and put the Flyers at a serious disadvantage for the rest of the game.

Here’s Brayden Schenn demolishing Karl Alzner as time expires, leading to one final pushing and shoving match.
If that’s just a sign of what’s to come, I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series has in store for us.
