There’s so much to look forward to within the Philly sports landscape at this time. The Flyers had a hell of a season. Things are looking up for the Eagles with a potential franchise quarterback in Carson Wentz. The Phillies are shockingly good this season – almost in first place – and the Sixers just got the number one pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. But which team is actually the closest to winning? The ever so controversial (for some odd reason) Josh Innes of 94WIP weighed in on the matter.
I think the team that is closest to being a true contender, and I know it’s hard to quantify contender, because in some cases you could say, is just getting to the playoffs being a contender? Is just winning a wildcard being a contender? Is winning a division a contender? But right now, based on the setup of all the teams and what they have moving forward, I believe that the Eagles are the closest team to being a quote-unquote contender.”
…
“I believe that. I think the number two pick, taking the quarterback is a huge deal. The defense is not only solid, or going to be solid I believe, I do believe in Jim Schwartz, he’ll build a solid defense. They are young. You start looking at the guys they’ve invested in for the future, the young. Fletcher Cox is going to sign hopefully before the start of camp. Guess what? He’s young. Hell even Malcolm Jenkins is relatively young. And they’re going to add onto that defense…And you’ve got a division in which Tony Romo and Eli Manning are going to be out before you know it.”
