According to a report from the Washington Post, Jon Runyan will become the league’s chief disciplinarian for “on-field violations such as illegal hits.” He’ll also “oversee the league’s inspection program for uniforms and protective equipment and is to work in collaboration with the NFL’s rule-making competition committee, its player safety advisory panel and representatives of teams.”
His official title will be Vice President of Policy and Rules Administration. The Post says his appointment is expected to be announced soon, according to a source. Runyan will join former Eagle Troy Vincent as Roger Goodell’s right hand men. He’ll impose fines and suspensions for on-field infractions, which makes it sound like Goodell won’t be issuing the punishments anymore. Then again, he could just tell Runyan what to do and Runyan will do it.
In any event, good for Jon.

Congratulations to Jon Runyan! I talked to him about this yesterday. He said all the off-field issues will continue to be handled by the commissioner.
