Report: Phillies to Call Tommy Joseph up to the Majors

It hasn’t been made official yet, but CSN Philly’s Jim Salisbury is reporting the Phillies will call up Tommy Joseph today. There have been rumblings for a while about this happening, as Joseph has moved from catcher to first baseman and is hitting .347 with 33 hits in 95 at-bats. Boasting six home runs and 17 RBI’s and seven doubles to go along with that, Joseph would provide an immediate boost to a flailing lineup.

After tearing up International League pitching for more than a month, Tommy Joseph was promoted to the majors on Friday, according to a league source.

The 24-year-old first baseman is expected to be in the Phillies’ lineup for his big-league debut when the club opens a series against the Cincinnati Reds at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night.

The Phillies will have to make a roster move to make room for Joseph.

Could that roster move be getting rid of Darin Ruf? We’ll see. The Phillies have yet to make an official announcement, but we’ll update this post if and when they do.

UPDATE: It’s official. The Phillies also optioned Ruf to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
