Shots Fired: Maurice Jones-Drew Blasts Chip Kelly

Early last month, Maurice Jones-Drew not only ranked Chip Kelly as the worst head coach in the NFL, he said Kelly deserved to be No. 35. I’m sure many in Philadelphia would agree. And Jones-Drew was back at it again over the weekend. The former NFL running back and Oakland native let loose on Kelly in an impromptu interview for TMZ.

He destroyed the Eagles, right? I just think his offense is a gimmick and gimmicks don’t really — they work for a year or two in a league and then defenses figure it out. You gotta go back to real football which is like lining up in a formation — like no huddle stuff doesn’t work.”

They’re trying to build their team from the inside-out. They’re trying to get guards, tackles, defensive lineman. They’re tying to build a solid core then do the other things all the fans like receivers, corners, quarterbacks things like that. I think they’re starting the right way in their rebuilding process, I just don’t know if Chip Kelly is gonna be the guy or not.”

For as much as Jones-Drew seems to hate Kelly, he sure didn’t mind their draft. The 49ers drafted Oregon defensive lineman DeForest Buckner — surprise, surprise — with their seventh selection and traded up into the latter portion of the first round to take mammoth Stanford guard Joshua Garnett.

Kelly went 26-21 in three seasons with Philadelphia.

You can watch what Jones-Drew had to say below.
