The Phillies Got Screwed Last Night

The Phillies had a 4-0 lead in last night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, and, for all intents and purposes, should have came out of that game with a win. But the umpires probably had some money on the game because there’s no other way to describe the ineptness we saw last night at Busch Stadium.

First, the umpire called a foul ball on this play, which was then reviewed and overturned.

And for some reason, the umpires took an entire Game of Thrones episode’s worth of time to look at the replay and somehow determine that the ball was fair. Do you see white chalk fly up? It took…

…for the umpires to see that conclusively. Yeah, uh huh.

And how about the Cardinals’ third base coach getting involved in a rundown and not being called for interference? I’ve been a base coach so I understand the semantics that go behind it, but that’s blatant interference even if he wasn’t trying to interfere. The runner should have been out and there should have been two outs with runners at first and second. The runner advancing to third base shouldn’t have been allowed.

Here’s the video, which you’ll need to watch on YouTube, because MLB.

So, yep, the Phillies got screwed last night.

Just when you could not hate David Bell more.

Here is a shot of him talking on the phone for 10 minutes.

The author is full of crap. I’m a Phillies fan, but we didn’t have a good enough view of the foul/fair ball. The only close up was blocked. And even in that clip, you can sort of see white particles flying up. And as for the play at the plate, look closely. He was safe, or at the very least, it was a tie.
