WWE superstar John Cena just now announced on Twitter that he will be hosting the ESPY Awards this year. They will take place on Wednesday, July 13th at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, and will air live on ABC at 8:00 P.M.

WWE has had a great relationship with ESPN dating back to last year’s SummerSlam event in Brooklyn, when ESPN began covering WWE more than they ever have. Jonathan Coachman, previously a WWE announcer and now with ESPN, spearheaded the relationship. Cena hosting the ESPYS this year definitely has a lot to do with that.
Apparently, this all just happened over the course of a few days.
They asked, and of course I said yes,” Cena said. “It goes without saying it’s a tremendous honor. The prestige of the show grows every year. It’s unbelievable. I obviously accepted, but it doesn’t go without its share of nerves. I just want to do the show justice. I’m going to do my due diligence and hopefully we can have a great show.”
ESPN published a great Q&A with Cena here.
This might be the first ESPYS I watch from beginning to end.
