Fletcher Cox Talks about the Eagles’ Defense, His Contract Extension and More

Fletcher Cox has been making his rounds since signing his whopping six-year, $103 million contract extension last week. He sat down with Alex Marvez and Kirk Morrison of SiriusXM NFL Radio Wednesday.

During an interview with NFL Network over the weekend, Cox stated that he expects to be a double-digit sack guy throughout his deal. He explained Tuesday what his role in Jim Schwartz’s defense will be.

“My role is to get to the quarterback,” he said. “Go get the quarterback, create havoc, negative plays is the biggest thing. I don’t think we had enough negative plays last year.”

Cox discussed how it was having to deal with 15 months of negotiation and how it felt to finally get his contract.

“It is a sense of relief,” he said. ” I don’t think at one point I ever got stressed about it. Just talking to Todd through the process, I just told him that I trust him and that I wasn’t going to get too involved in it. By me doing that and staying away from that for 15 months helped with the stressing part. Once we got closer to getting something done, I was trying to not show too much excitement.”

Cox also explained what it was like returning to mandatory mini camp a few weeks ago after missing the voluntary camps.

“Nobody was expecting me to be there, not one single person. I actually didn’t tell anybody I was coming. I pulled up to the facility, I pulled up around the back and I walked in the back door and there it is, everybody was excited to see me. They welcomed me back, everybody missed me and of course I missed them. I felt the love,” he said.
