The Chicago White Sox are dropping their dead weight and former Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins was the latest casualty.
The White Sox, who have dropped 20 of their last 27 games, designated the 2007 National League MVP and 37-year-old Rollins for assignment Friday. He joined pitcher Mat Latos on the chopping block this week. He was sent packing Thursday. Another pitcher, John Danks, was relieved of his duties in early May.
Rollins hit just .221 with two homers and eight RBIs in 41 games for the White Sox this season. Chicago called up its No. 1 rated prospect Tim Anderson to take Rollins’ spot on the roster.
