It’s been a whirlwind week for the number one pick in the NBA draft Ben Simmons. After becoming a member of the Sixers on Thursday night, tragedy struck the Simmons family early Saturday morning when Simmons’ cousin was killed by a hit-and-run driver. We here at Philly Influencer are truly saddened by this news and we hope that the Simmons family can find some comfort from the outpouring of support in this devastating time for them.
On Friday, Simmons appeared on The Dan Patrick Show. According to Simmons, he shared a moment that he had on perhaps the biggest night of his life. He said that he FaceTimed with his mentor LeBron James after the draft on Thursday night and the two had a pretty funny exchange. Simmons said that he told James that he couldn’t wait to get on the court and go up against James. James’ response was very LeBron James-like.
“He just flipped the camera [around] and it was the championship trophy,” Simmons said. “So I couldn’t say anything back.”
