Doug Pederson continues to stick by his guy.
The Philadelphia Eagles head coach met with the media before Friday’s practice and not only continued to stand by Sam Bradford, he also said that Bradford’s taken the quarterback competition and “run with it.”
“Sam Bradford has been unbelievable in practice and has separated himself from the competition,” he said.
Despite some differentiating reports about which quarterback has performed better so far in OTAs, Carson Wentz or Bradford, Pederson’s opinion is the only one that matters.
Barring injury, Bradford will be the starter against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1. Pederson has never derived from that stance.
“I think he’s done an outstanding job,” Pederson said of Bradford. “When you’re spreading reps equally with three guys, that’s what you want to see. I think he’s done a nice job of taking the next step of being the leader on this football team and the starter.”
Pederson explained what he’s seen from Bradford so far.
“One, his leadership. The fact that he’s embraced that huddle, it’s his huddle. He steps in every day when we’re ready to compete, he’s aggressive with the guys in the huddle, and that’s great to see from your leader, from your quarterback,” he said.
Pederson continued.
“And the way he’s anticipated throws, his accuracy on throws, how well he sees the field, throws a nice ball, nice deep ball. Things like that have really made him the guy I knew he was, and those are things that are exciting finishing up our offseason and getting ready for camp,” he said.
That’s some really high praise. Check out the entire press conference below.
