No need to worry about Maikel Franco. Or his wrist. Maybe.
Last night in Pittsburgh, Franco was hit with a pitch in the left wrist in the first inning. He was taken out of the game in the bottom of the third inning, even after hitting a single in the top of the frame.
That didn’t look too good, and people began speculating maybe he was either injured worse than the team originally thought or his at-bat in the third inning did some more damage to his wrist. A23s it turns out, the Phillies say Franco was removed from the game for precautionary reasons.
Franco took X-rays in the locker room and, luckily, they came back negative. Franco explained that his wrist was “getting puffy,” causing the Phillies to take him out of the game.
I was scared at first because it was sore and was getting puffy,” Franco said after the Phillies’ 4-0 win. “I felt better [after getting treatment], though. I think everything will be fine.”
Zach Eflin didn’t need much offensive help from Franco, as he tossed a three-hit, 100-pitch complete game shutout.
