NBA free agency began today at 12:01 A.M. Hassan Whiteside is staying with the Heat on a four-year max deal [about $98 million]. Nicolas Batum is staying in Charlotte, signing a five-year, $120 million deal. Jordan Clarkson’s staying with the Lakers, signing a four-year, $50 million deal. Ish Smith, we hardly knew ye, is now a Detroit Piston after signing a three-year deal. And DeMar DeRozan is staying in Toronto.
As for the Sixers? Well, they were after Harrison Barnes, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. But it doesn’t look like they’ll land him, because Golden State intends to match any offer he gets from other teams.
It has been common knowledge the Warriors would do this, especially if they can’t land Kevin Durant. The jury is still out on that one right now.
We’ll keep you updated on what the Sixers are doing. When they, you know, do something.
