The Eagles placed the injury-prone Mathews on the active/non-active football injury list Wednesday after suffering an ankle injury while working out on his own last week.
Mathews was second among running backs in average per carry (5.1) last year, totaling 539 yards and six touchdowns. He’s played all 16 games in a season just once so far in his six-year career.
