Former Philadelphia 76ers head coach Jim O’Brien will be back on the Sixers bench, but this time in a lesser role.
O’Brien will be hired as the Sixers’ assistant coach and will replace Mike D’Antoni, according to a report by FOX29’s Howard Eskin. Yes, the guy still does break news.
D’Antoni was named the Houston Rockets’ head coach last month.
O’Brien went 43-39 during the 2004-05 campaign, his lone season as a head coach in Philadelphia. The Sixers made the postseason after not qualifying for the playoffs the year before, but he was still fired at the end of the year and replaced by Maurice Cheeks.
