Every Wednesday, Anthony Pinto brings you ‘War Room Wednesday’ for a look at, well, whatever he wants. But, it’s Thursday. So, here’s ‘War Room Thursday’ for this week.
In the last couple of weeks, in the matter of an instant really, Pokémon has come back on the map as if it was the 1990s all over again. Pokémon GO is the free cell phone app that has become a global sensation seemingly overnight. The app tugs at our heartstrings. It’s bringing out our fantasies of heading out and searching for Pokémon ourselves. It’s now a reality. Well, sort of. By using your GPS, Pokémon GO allows users to go out in the real world and catch fake Pokémon. Our own Candis McLean detailed how the app works last week.
With the use of real GPS, it could lead users into some sticky situations. So we’ve made a PSA video to try and point you in the right direction.
So, there you have it. Go out and have some fun, but most importantly, stay safe! And if you still haven’t picked a team make sure you pick Team Mystic and rep that Philly Influencer blue.
As far as the app goes, as a 27-year-old male, it’s been a blast reliving the nostalgia of my childhood. I still remember playing the Red and Blue versions on Game Boy thinking, “I really wish I could go out in the real world and catch Pokémon.” And now we can!
The app does have its downsides, mainly with the servers constantly lagging and going down. On top of that, it’s a bit simple. But luckily, Niantic has announced that the app will have updates every two weeks from here on out, which will include fixing bugs and adding features like trading.
So grab your phone charger and get out there to catch them all!
