Here’s a statement from head coach Doug Pederson:
“Carson felt some discomfort and soreness as we began this morning’s practice. We decided to limit him throughout the remainder of practice and, as a precaution, sent him for a CT scan after practice. The scan revealed a hairline fracture in his ribs. We do not know an exact timetable for his return, but we hope to have him back before the end of the preseason.”
This is not good at all. Wentz will miss snaps during practice and the preseason, and there’s almost no certainty he’d be a better option than Chase Daniel as the backup quarterback going into the regular season now.
Then again, maybe Wentz is a monster and he doesn’t need to practice. We talkin’ ’bout practice, man.

Carson Wentz didn’t fully participate in practice today due to sore ribs, according to head coach Doug Pederson. The sore ribs Wentz is suffering from apparently came from a big hit during Thursday night’s preseason game against the Bucs. [NJ.com]
“If you were watching the game, he took a shot on the next-to-last play and he stayed down on the ground a little while. He was just sore today. I just wanted to protect him, so he didn’t throw.”
The play Pederson was talking about was likely this one:
It’s worth noting that Wentz was also hit hard on the play before. Here’s that play:
Wentz reportedly threw in individual drills on Saturday morning, but nothing during 11-on-11s. McLeod Bethel-Thompson, the fourth-string quarterback, repped with the third-team offense. Pederson said Wentz will be good to go for tomorrow’s open practice at The Linc and the Thursday’s preseason game against the Steelers.
