With new rules come experimentation.
The NFL is moving closer to eliminating the kickoff, with touchbacks now taking place at the 25-yard line instead of the 20 in an attempt to reduce kickoff returns and injuries. The rule change was made in March. It’s a second move in the last five years on the return after the league moved kickoffs from the 30-yard line to the 35 in 2011.
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson explained what he’s been doing in practice to help the team adjust to it.
Sounds like pretty sound strategy to me, as long as your coverage units are disciplined and able to tackle the returner before the 25.
