Our old friend Jonathan Papelbon is looking for a new team for the playoff run. Today, he reportedly requested his release from the Washington Nationals, according to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick.
Papelbon lost his closer’s role to Mark Melancon when the Pirates traded him to the Nationals before the trade deadline on August 1.
With a 4.37 ERA this season, it’ll be interesting to see if a team in the playoff hunt makes a run at Papelbon, if he is granted his release. They should just be careful about letting him around their star players.
Hey, Paps. How do you feel about BOFA?
