Philly Mag’s Josh Paunil snapped this shot of Maplewood, New Jersey native Troy Beckett outside of the NovaCare Complex this morning.

He’s holding a sign that says:
“Want 2 be great. Not homeless… But starving for that shot!!! #TrulyBlessed&NeverStressed. Will run defensive back drills for food #underdog. #CallGod. #PatientlyWaiting.”
It looks like he’s wearing an inspirational shirt, too. Would love to see this kid get a tryout. Here’s a synopsis of his playing days in college before he graduated Bemidji State University in Minnesota.
2014 (Sr) An All-NSIC Second Team selection… Started all 11 games at cornerback… Was fifth on the team with 56 total tackles (31 solo, 25 assisted)… Had two tackles for loss along with one interception and eight pass break ups… Set a career-high with 12 total tackles at St. Cloud State (Nov. 1)… Also tied his career-high in solo tackles with five and set a career-high in assisted tackles with seven versus the Huskies… Had 10 total tackles, one tackle for a loss and two pass break ups versus No. 1 Minnesota State (Sept. 27).
2013 (Jr): Played in 10 games with four starts at cornerback in his first season at BSU… Started the first game and the final three contests of the season… Compiled 29 tackles (17 solo) with two tackles for loss (-6 yards)… Recorded two interceptions to tie for the team-high and added seven break-ups to rank second on the squad… The nine passes defended also ranked second.
Totaled four or more tackles on four occasions… Recorded a season-high nine tackles, which included a season-best five solo efforts, at MSU Moorhead (Nov. 9)… Added two pass break-ups versus the Dragons, which matched a season-high… Posted five tackles (four solo), two pass break-ups and an interception versus No. 7 Minnesota Duluth (Oct. 26)… In his first game and start in the green and white at Winona State (Sept. 5), compiled four tackles (three solo) with an interception in overtime to secure the comeback victory for the Beavers… Totaled four tackles (three solo) at Northern State (Oct. 19), which included two tackles for loss resulting in backing up the Wolves six yards.
Here’s what Beckett said in an interview last year with New Era Scouting:
“Honestly, I believe it’s a plus side to it and there is a negative side to it, the plus side is the fact that I can play this game and I understand it in & out, so it shouldn’t matter what school it is, now the negative side is the fact that nobody really knows Bemidji state because like you said it is a small school but I have faith because God has a plan for everyone and I strongly believe that the NFL is mines, also The Tight End for the Oakland Raiders Brian Leonhardt came from Bemidji State so it is really no excuse.”
Eagles could use some help in the secondary. Just saying.
