Head coach Doug Pederson and the Philadelphia Eagles are still bringing Dorial Green-Beckham along slowly.
DGB saw less than a third of the team’s snaps (25) against the Cleveland Browns. It’s understandable considering he still has to learn Pederson’s complex playbook after being acquired in a trade from the Tennessee Titans just last month, but I would’ve liked to see him out there a bit more.
I thought he presented some matchup problems for the Browns’ cornerbacks, with both of their starters, Joe Haden and Jamar Taylor, standing less than 6-feet tall. Green-Beckham, of course, is 6’5. Instead, we saw Matthews get a fade thrown his way in the back corner of the end zone, not Green-Beckham. He caught two passes for 14 yards, both quick outs, which was pretty much all he was running.
I expected Green-Beckham’s route tree to be limited to start the year, but I want to see him get involved the red zone and still take some shots down the field and letting his use him physicality, body control and leaping ability to haul those in.
Jordan Matthews (71) and Nelson Agholor (67) saw the majority of the 77 total snaps from the wide receiver position. Agholor had an inconsistent preseason with a fair share of drops, but brought in four receptions for 57 yards and that lovely 35-yard TD catch. Huff saw 28 snaps, nearly the same as DGB, so Pederson is showing a lot of faith in Agholor. Agholor will have to step up his game with the injury to Ertz.
