Heading into the 2016-17 season, the Eagles were considered to have the 26th toughest schedule in the NFL, or how normal people would say it, they have the seventh easiest schedule in the league.
Not anymore.
The once seventh easiest regular season slate is now the hardest schedule in the NFL, through five weeks of the season, according to SB Nation. Including Week 5, the winning percentage of the Eagles’ remaining opponents is .636. The second toughest schedule belongs to none other than the Detroit Lions, who, including the Eagles last week, had a schedule where their remaining opponents have a combined winning percentage of .625.
The Eagles have an important stretch of games in their immediate future, but I don’t think it is the hardest in the whole season. They begin a stretch this weekend with the Redskins in DC, followed by a home game against our old friend Sammy Sleeves and the Vikings and then a visit to Dallas on October 30 for Sunday Night Football. [Editor’s note: WWE’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view is that night that I’m covering for PhillyVoice.com. Fantastic.]
However, the Week 10-12 stretch looks to be the toughest with a home meeting against the Atlanta Falcons, a trip across the country to face the Seattle Seahawks, capped off with a home game against the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football. That trio’s combined win-loss record is 10-3 through the first five weeks of the season.
Regardless of which three-game span is the most difficult, the Eagles, who gave a game away last week, still have their toughest tests ahead.
