Ron Hextall just announced that goaltender Michal Neuvirth will miss 4-6 weeks with a lower-body injury [called a knee sprain by the team last night], suffered last night in the Flyers’ win against the Minnesota Wild. Neuvirth played one period, but was pulled before the second period began for Steve Mason. Mason only let in one goal and backstopped the Flyers to a big win at home.
Neuvirth was hurt stretching for a save on this shot by Mikael Granlund.
Goaltending for the Flyers has been poor so far this season, so hopefully last night will get Mason some confidence moving forward and Neuvirth can heal up and be ready to return before the holidays. In the meantime, the Flyers will likely [see: should] call up Anthony Stolarz, who currently boasts a 0.927 save percentage with the Phantoms.
