It’s an obvious priority. The Philadelphia Eagles not only need to add one wide receiver this offseason, they need to bring in at least two.
One of the reports that’s been floating around is a potential reunion with DeSean Jackson. ESPN’s Adam Schefter joined the 97.5 The Fanatic’s Morning Show on Wednesday to discuss the rumor.
“If you’re the Philadelphia Eagles, just think about it, what’s your greatest need? A receiver. What kind of receiver? A speed receiver. What would be more popular than bringing DeSean back. All of the things are in place … It’s so logical. He came out earlier in the year and talked about how much he likes and wants to play for Doug Pederson, how much he respects. Just one more element that makes something like that a logical situation to occur.”
Not only is Jackson a free agent at the end of the season for the Redskins, so are quarterback Kirk Cousins and fellow wideout Pierre Garcon. Washington isn’t going to be able to pay all three of them. Jackson might head elsewhere and Schefter believes he’ll make about $7-8 million a season.
“It would stretch the field for them, it would help out Jordan Matthews, it would help out Carson Wentz.”
A concern of mine is Jackson’s age. He’s now 30 and with speed being such a vital element in his game, how much tread on those tires would he have left? “He’s 30 years old and I think those issues and concerns and questions will be factored into the money,” Schefter noted.
I’d be open to bringing Jackson back to Philly for the right years and price. I wouldn’t give him a multi-year contract, maybe a two-year deal with an option for a third. I’d prefer Alshon Jeffery or Terrelle Pryor, but Jackson wouldn’t be a terrible consolation prize of Jeffery or Pryor decide to sign elsewhere.
