One more year, at least that’s the plan.
The diminutive 33-year-old Darren Sproles said that the 2017 season will be his last, according to Tim McManus of ESPN.
I feel like (after 2017) it will be time.
The 5’6 Sproles, who is the third oldest running back in the NFL behind Frank Gore and DeAngelo Williams, signed a one-year extension through 2017 during the summer. His hope is to remain in Philadelphia, which acquired him from the New Orleans Saints in 2014 for a fifth-round pick.
That’s not up to me. That’s up to the people upstairs. I’ve got nothing to do with that. But that’s the plan.
Sproles is scheduled to make a base salary of $4 million next season if the Eagles decide to bring him back, but there wouldn’t any dead money if he is cut.
I don’t see why he wouldn’t be back, however. He has 406 rushing yards (4.8 YPC), 423 receiving yards and four total touchdowns. He’s always a viable option on 3rd-and-medium because of his threat coming out of the backfield as a receiver. He also remains a huge weapon in the return game.
