Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol isn’t afraid to sit his players. Especially when he thinks they’ll gain from the experience of watching the game from the press box.
He benched Shayne Gostisbehere. He benched Michael Del Zotto. Both times, Flyers fans and reporters were a little bit dumbfounded, especially at the timing of the benchings.
And now, he’s benching Travis Konecny, who had two assists in St. Louis on Wednesday night.
Clearly Hakstol pays attention to his guys when they have the puck and when they don’t. He’s likely seeing something and is sending a message to Konecny, exactly like he did with Gostisbehere and Del Zotto. Let’s hope the move works for the best.
