With the Minnesota Vikings’ 38-10 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday, they finished the 2016 season at 8-8. That means the Philadelphia Eagles will pick at either No. 14 or 15 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, which takes place in Philadelphia. That selection of whether the Birds will pick 14 or 15 will be decided by a coin flip in February. [CSN Philly]
While the Eagles don’t have their own pick in the upcoming draft, they do own the Vikings’ pick, which will end up being a pretty good one. They got the pick thanks to the Sam Bradford trade just before the season.
The Vikings and Colts each finished with 8-8 records and equal strength of schedules, which will set up a coin flip at the combine in Indianapolis in February to determine who gets the higher pick. Winner gets No. 14, loser gets 15.
Thanks Sam Bradford!
The Eagles obtained a first-round selection in the trade that sent Bradford to Minnesota prior to the start of the NFL season after starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a horrific knee injury. Philadelphia didn’t have a first-round pick previously due to the package it sent the Cleveland Browns that landed Carson Wentz with the No. 2 overall selection.
Due to their 7-9 mark, the Eagles’ pick that Cleveland owns is 12th. At the end of the day, Philadelphia is only picking 2-or-3 slots behind its original position. Not bad considering how high Minnesota’s expectations were before the season and after it began 5-0.
There’s a coin flip for the 14th pick because Minnesota and the Indianapolis Colts both finished 8-8 and had the same strength of schedule.
Philadelphia, of course, will host the 2017 NFL Draft.
