Each week, a collection of the most diverse, obscene, and interesting social media and news stories will be compiled. Feel free to Tweet us or email us at [email protected] any of the crazy things you see trending or come across during your day.
It’s the third week of January 2017. Vine has come to an end, the horrible Joseph Fiennes visual of Michael Jackson has been pulled, the Chris Brown and Soulja Boy fight is till happening, and Betty White is safe. Here’s a rundown of some of the most insane and wackiest moments over the past few days:
1. “Bad and Boujee” is canceled
The Golden Globes are over a week old. La La Land won a lot of awards, the jokes were stale as usual, and Meryl Streep trended for 24 hours. One of the most talked about moments of the award show came when Donald Glover’s hit FX show Atlanta won the globe for “Outstanding Comedy Series”. Glover thanked many people including hip hop group Migos for making the anthem “Bad and Boujee”. The Golden Globes audience did the ultimate oblivious laugh seemingly having no clue or concept of the song. Days later the song reached #1 on the Billboard charts, many people started doing renditions, and it went to where everything in pop culture goes to die, suburbia. The song will certainly maintain its “sip and dance” status at parties, but the populace can do without covers like this one:

2. Excess baggage
We’ve all heard the term “ryde or die girl” before but this woman takes the meaning to new levels. When Venezuela citizen Antonieta Robles Saouda went to visit her boyfriend in prison, she attempted an escape that wouldn’t make a Danny Ocean throwaway plan list. Saouda brought the couple’s 6-year old daughter with her to visit Ibrain Garcia that day. When she tried pushing her suitcase towards the door, the guards noticed her struggling to move it and walked over. The guards opened the overstuffed suitcase to find Garcia terribly hidden inside. The couple’s child was thankfully taken into custody and the pair were detained together. I will be haunted by the questions of, ” What? How? and Why in the world did he take this picture in the suitcase after getting caught?”
3. DMV revenge
So many of us can’t stand the DMV or anything attached to the establishment. Even further, paying for things in general is a horrible experience. Virginia man Nick Stafford owed the state $2,987.14. He went to the ultimate realm of petty to deliver 300,000 pennies to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Stafford used five wheelbarrows to deliver payment. The pennies destroyed the department’s coin counting machine and ultimately they had to be counted by hand. It took more than 12 hours to complete the task. The pennies weighed 1,548 pounds. Stafford tried numerous times, he claimed, to remedy his situation with the DMV but was met with red tape and disarray. Stafford paid up to $1,000 to have the coins counted, packed, and transported.
4. We Dem Boyz breakdown
HOW BOUT DEM COWBOYS! Did I take pleasure in watching Mason Crosby destroy lives over the weekend? Yes I did. The rest of the world also rejoiced. In the most improbable and glorious endings to a playoff game in recent years, the Green Bay Packers victory over the Dallas Cowboys was a moment that highlighted my Sunday evening. Social media was a meme party. From Jerry Jones’ crying Jordan face to Zeke Elliot slurping up “Ls” everyone won the internet that night. The reaction of the Dallas insane fanbase was also extremely enjoyable. Many of them were delusional enough to count the loss as a moral victory, others took to extreme violence in their own stadium (but snowballs?), and the most incensed fans broke their own property. Check out the video below (language warning):

5. Man tries to sell child for a car
A father from China’s Linyi City was recently caught by the police during an attempt to sell his child for thousands. The father claimed his wife demanded he buy her a new car. To remedy his financial situation, he decided the best course of action was to sell their child. The husband wanted to divorce his wife and his wife’s incentive to sign the paperwork was the vehicle. The father found a buyer for his child on the internet and was seen on the streets holding the child in freezing temperatures to make the sale. Police officers often patrol the area where the man wanted to make the exchange. The man known as Zhang has been detained for human trafficking. When asked why he did it, he replied ” It’s difficult to break up when you have a child.” It’s obvious a divorce is coming for this couple regardless of the status of the wife’s car very soon.
6. “Kiss Me Thru the Phone” becomes literal
As a person who survived and was harassed by the terrible pitfall of a long distance relationship, let me be the fist to give this gadget a question mark emoji reaction. Researchers from the Imaginerring Lab at City University London have created the Kissenger. It’s an apparatus that attaches to your phone and mimics real kissing. The device has several pressure sensors and provides a real life feeling for the simple pecks you want to send your loved one (no tongue). The structure pairs with a messenger app that sends your kiss to the silicon destination on the other end. The kiss replication device already has a working iOS prototype but isn’t available for purchase.
