Before Saturday night’s game against the Miami Heat at the Wells Fargo Center, Sixers president of basketball operations, Bryan Colangelo spoke to the media regarding Joel Embiid’s big day. We all woke up to videos of Embiid dancing on stage at the Meek Mill concert Friday night inside that same arena, and then we found out prior to tip, thanks to Derek Bodner [seriously, go follow this guy], that Embiid’s been dealing with a meniscus tear in his left knee the last few weeks.
Moments after Bodner’s report, Colangelo spoke with reporters and gave his thoughts about the whirlwind day in Sixerland. [CSN Philly]
“It’s not the best thing to see when you wake up on Saturday morning and find out that was the case because I know the reaction. I understand some of the potential concern out there … Being at a concert wasn’t disappointing. Probably being onstage and dancing was a little bit, given the circumstances and given the potential reaction. It’s understandable.
“It’s hard to say to someone like Joel that has been a tremendous character and tremendous citizen for us, that he’s doing anything untoward or wrong.”

Colangelo didn’t discuss any conversations he or team officials may have had with Embiid, but he didn’t exactly have to. I think he handled this rather well. Despite the covering up the injury for whatever reason. The team is probably facing a lot of criticism from many fans because of how they’ve handled this – among many other things – but Colangelo came off well here. And, how about the fact he’s been on the airwaves a lot this week!? Go, Bryan, go!
