Each week, a collection of the most diverse, obscene, and interesting social media and news stories will be compiled. Feel free to Tweet us or email us at [email protected] any of the crazy things you see trending or come across during your day.
It’s the second week of February. The “Cash Me Outside” girl got into a fight on Spirit Airlines, Kanye West politically flip-flopped again, but neither blew a 25-point lead in the Super Bowl. In honor of Lady Gaga’s bedazzled shoulder pads from this past weekend, here are a few recent dazzling, memorizing, and shocking events.
1. Snakes In Wrong Places
WMC Action News 5 – Memphis, Tennessee
A Portland, Oregon woman got the shock of her lifetime. ER doctors were thrown for a loop, literally, when Ashley Glawe arrived at the hospital with a snake in her earlobe. Glawe said that her serpentine friend loves to lay around her neck. “What felt like he struck at my ear, I like froze instantly”, Glawe told CNN. She later said, “I like tried to get him out myself. And I knew I wasn’t going to be able to do that without hurting him.” First, the local fire department came and were unsuccessful with removing the snake. Once at the hospital, doctors were able to numb Glawe’s ear, stretch the lobe out further, and free the snake from its owner’s ear.
2. Scientific Skin
Engineers and researchers at MIT cultivated a hydrogel that doesn’t dry out. The scientific breakthrough could lead to artificial skin, smart band-aids, and durable contact lenses. The ability to prevent hydrogels from drying out could open a new world into bioelectronics. Lead Developer Xuanhe Zhao took the idea from the several layers of human skin. Zho stated, “We hope this work will pave the way for synthetic skin, or even robots with very soft, flexible skin with biological functions.” We may a see a future where this product can be used to deliver medication on the skin, cover up scarring, and so much more.
3. Harambe Cheeto
Harambe has had a cult-like following since his memorable slaying in May 2016. He received a sizeable amount of write-in votes in the past American Presidential election and has been mourned by the masses. Never in the history of time has Flamin’ Hot Cheeto netted such an insane amount of money. An Ebay seller found his crunchy snack’s image to be the spitting image of the fallen gorilla. The commemorative orange dusted treat allegedly sold for a whopping $99,000! Yes, you read that correctly. Do not adjust your browser. The listing had over 132 bids. The reported sale has also sparked other Harambe Cheeto listings in the last 48 hours.

Why would you do this? I have no answer. The Love Food social account posted this video that answered the question, “I wonder what Big Mac ice cream tastes like?” The user took the “two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on sesame seed bun” sandwich and made it into a questionable dessert. As you see above, the Big Mac was layered into a vat of ice cream, similar to the method that Cold Stone Creamery uses. After the several flips and turns, the ice cream creation was placed in a bowl and topped with a nugget. I’m all about great sandwiches. I’m all for ice cream. If someone told me the marriage between the two tasted great, I’d have to believe they were speaking in alternative facts.
5. Futuristic Football Helmets
Gridiron Labs has taken the football helmet to a new extreme. The lab built a case study around the evolution of the wearable protective equipment. They created a futuristic device that joined technology and engineering like no other. The helmets would have embedded impact sensors, display face masks, HD cameras and more. Athletes would be able to see everything from play calls, to situational breakdowns, to their heart rates. The helmet would also be interactive including enhanced team logos and animated displays for instances where a player is having a great game.
