Sometimes things just happen organically that really make a mark in a sports team’s fan base. That’s exactly what the #RaiseTheCat movement did, beginning on Sixers Twitter that had many people posting pictures of themselves raising their cats high above their head after each Sixers win, which has now become a mainstream movement.
A big part of Sixers Twitter, (@GipperGrove), aka Dennis Grove, began the trend. He’s funneled that into a fantastic charity cause. But the NBA is now selling a T-shirt that he created, and in addition to that, Upper Deck filing a trademark for “Raise The Cat” last month. We’re not going to link to the NBA one, because we don’t know where the money’s going. Is it going to benefit charity? Are the Sixers making any money off it? We still don’t know yet. However, if you want to help the original cause and donate to charity, may I suggest buying the original T-shirts.
You can buy them here, and all proceeds benefit PhillyPAWS. Will the NBA eventually donate their proceeds off this T-shirt to charity? We certainly hope so.
