That’s All She Wrote, Tony Romo To Retire (For Now)

I can’t say I’m all that surprised; TV money is pretty good at the end of the day.

Take a look at some of  the contracts for ESPN’s talent. Gru-Dawg (Jon Gruden) makes over $6 million per season, Matt Hasselback is making good money, so like I said, the dollar amount should be high for a guy like Tony Romo. But even if it’s not, Romo made over $125 million during his career, so I’m sure he’s saved for this day.

Romo’s on-the-field play is interesting to discuss because he did put up decent numbers for the Cowboys. He is their all-time leader in passing yards and touchdown passes, but his teams always failed in the playoffs.  I guess the most impressive stat is that he did all this while being undrafted.

Romo will turn 37 on April 21st. The main question for today is, when you hear the name Tony Romo, what comes to mind? For me, I think about the word “overthrows.” Like when he had Miles Austin wide open against the Giants in the 2007 playoffs. This was a game that the Cowboys lost and were home favorites.

That will hurt a legacy.

Last thing, you could always count on a funny Romo meme… how many of these did E-Rock make?

(Update: According to an ESPN executive, Romo is the Cowboys first call if Dak Prescott gets injured. Of course he is.)
