What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: April 7-9

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. 1. National Beer Day 


Where: Various Locations
When: Friday, April 7th

This Friday is National Beer Day across the country. Many local bars and breweries will be having several drink specials and specialty menus. Revolutions at Penn Treaty will be taking a dollar off all draft and bottled beers, Brauhaus Schmitz will be hosting a Phillies themed party, both City Tap locations have great discounts, and more.

2. Phillies Home Opener


Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way
When: Friday, April 7th, 3PM

The Philadelphia Phillies are hosting their first home game of the season and of this year on Friday afternoon. Taking on the Washington Nationals, the team looks to start their home season off right after a three-game series with the Reds. The Phillies organization has teamed with transportation service Uber to get fans to Citizens Bank Park for just $2.15 between the hours of 12 p.m.-8p.m.

3. Good Vibes Only Happy Hour


Where: Chinatown Square, 1016 Race St.
When: Friday, April 7th, 5PM-9PM

It’s the one year anniversary of the Good Vibes Only Happy Hour. Come to Chinatown Square to get some tea infused drinks and cocktails, discounted appetizers, and to hear great music. In the Access Karaoke Lounge there will be $8 Courvoisier drinks and DJ Ronnie D will be spinning the latest hits.

4. Philly Film Showcase


Where: Prince Theater, 1412 Chestnut St.
When: Friday, April 7th, 7:30PM

Each month the Philadelphia Film Society curates an exhibition to display the best in short films the area has to offer. April’s showcase will highlight four films from some up-and-coming filmmakers from many different artistic backgrounds. There will be film screenings and post-screening Q&As and discussions.

5. John Mayer


Where: Well Fargo Center, 3601 S Broad St.
When: Friday, April 7th, 7:30PM

Singer-songwriter and musician John Mayer will be performing at the Wells Fargo Center this Friday. The multiple Grammy award-winning “Your Body is a Wonderland” artist released his seventh studio album this year titled The Search for Everything. The two-part recent release will be a feature of the concert and many more of Mayer’s memorable tracks.

6. DMX


Where: Theater of Living Arts, 334 South St.
When: Friday, April 7th, 8:30PM

Fresh off asking Twitter to send him “trap beats” this week DMX comes to Philly to entertain the TLA crowd. The Ruff Ryders rapper and producer has filled the last decade with reality TV insanity, tabloid headlines, and infrequent album releases. Come see what made  “How’s It Going’ Down” rapper one of the hottest acts of the 2000s and a continual high energy hip hop act.

7. Deadmau5


Where: BB&T Pavilion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Friday, April 7th, 9PM

Canadian House record producer and DJ Deadmau5’s show titled “Lots of Shows in A Row” will light up the Camden Waterfront this Friday. Deadmau5 recently pulled a setlist switch for his April Fool’s dated NYC show. The BB&T Pavilion crowd can only guess what visuals and spectacles the electronic hit maker will create with this highly anticipated show. He’ll also be performing a show at Philadelphia hangout Coda later on in the day.

8. Tap Room on 19th Block Party


Where: Tap Room on 19th, 2400 S 19th St.
When: Saturday, April 8th, 12PM-7PM

The area around Ritner Street will be shutdown with this Tappin’ The Trucks Brews n’ Bites Block Party. There will be several food truck options including The Cow and the Curd, OINK and MOO BBQ, Foolish Waffles, and more. Come take in the sunny Saturday rays and choose from the six distinguished breweries that will provide the beverages. There will be a bouncy house for kids and other activities.

9. Pop-Up Museum: Prison Breaking News


Where: Eastern State Penitentiary, 2027 Fairmount Ave.
When: Saturday, April 8th-Monday, April 17th

Easter State Penitentiary will begin its Pop-Up Museum exhibition this Saturday. The institution has dug and rustled through its historical archives to create a special showcase of rarely seen artifacts. For just 10 days, be prepared to see these long hidden treasures including old news articles, film, collectibles, paintings, prison paraphernalia, and more from an era long gone.

10. Philly Farm & Food Fest


Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St.
When: Saturday, April 8th, 10AM-4PM

The Pennsylvania Convention Center will be transformed into a harvest festival for all. Co-sponsored by Kitchen Table Consultants and Fair Foods, this event will have many premier local farmers, a Kids Corral with storytelling, an artisanal cheese display, many craft beers, vendors, open discussions on farming, and so much more. Tickets are $20.

11. Grow Up Great at the Kimmel Center


Where: Kimmel Center, 300 S Broad St.
When: Saturday, April 8th, 11AM

This Saturday the Commonwealth Plaza at the Kimmel Center will be a hosting a free, engaging, and interactive  class for kids. The musical theater and jazz centered event will be helmed by musical director Kendra Butler. There will be plenty of instruments as your kids will explore the and be educated on the unique qualities and range of music.

12. Macy’s Family Fun Day


Where: The African American Museum in Philadelphia, 701 Arch St.
When: Saturday, April 8th, 10AM-5PM

Each month Macy’s sponsors a family centric and kid-friendly day at the African American Museum in Philadelphia. The event will have music, crafts, specialized workshops, dance performances, and many more activities. The first 250 who arrive for this exciting event will gain free entry.

13. Bowling with the Easter Bunny


Where: Lucky Strike Philadelphia, 1336 Chestnut St.
When: Saturday, April 8th, 12PM-3PM

Bring your family down to this  entertainment center bowling beacon Luck Strike to prep for the coming holiday. There will be an Easter egg hunt, plenty of open lanes and games, and an Easter bunny meet-and-greet. There will also be a kid-friendly lunch buffet. Tickets are $15.

14. Ardmore Beer Festival


Where: The Ardmore Music Hall, 23 E Lancaster Ave. Ardmore, PA
When: Saturday, April 8th, 12PM-5PM

For $45 you’ll get access to over fifty craft beers and beverages. Come to the Ardmore Music Hall to sample from a wide selection of beverages and to hear live music by TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb and the Whiskey Boys. There will be lots of food vendors to choose from at this annual spring festival.

15. UFC 210 at Revolutions


Where: Revolutions at Penn Treaty, 1009 Canal Street.
When: Saturday, April 8th, 8PM-2AM

Revolutions at Penn Treaty will be hosting a UFC 210 viewing party. There will be $3 Yuengling drafts all night long and half off appetizers from 8p.m. until closing time. DJ Kevin Kong will be pick up the pace of the night during action breaks. Come see Cormier vs Johnson for the second time in this massive 52,00 square-foot venue.

16. 90’s Bar Crawl


Where: various locations including U-Bahn
When: Saturday, April 8th 2PM-10PM

This traveling 90’s bar crawl returns to Philadelphia to liven up your Saturday night. This throwback themed soiree asks you to recall a time of AOL Instant Messenger, Fresh Prince of Bel Air,  Power Rangers, and regretfully Hanson. Nine downtown bars will be participating in this drink special lineup and bar hop hop. Tickets are just $20.

17. Clover Market


Where: 25 W. Highland Ave.
When: Sunday, April 9th, 10AM-5PM

The Clover Market makes its return to Chestnut Hill this Sunday. There will be over 100 vendors peddling beautiful and one-of-a-kind antiques. Come select from a wide variety of crafts, collectibles, and friendly merchants at this event. Food will not be a problem as this traveling outdoor show always has plenty of food trucks. The event is free and is dog-friendly.

18. Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival


Where: Along Main Street
When: Sunday, April 9th, 11AM-5PM

Mark you calendars and prepare to get in line! The Spring Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival is this Sunday. Over 50 of the city’s best food trucks will have you wanting for more at this pay-as-you-go culinary mass gathering. Each year some of the most delicious and savory food can be found here. The event coincides with Manayunk Restaurant Week which runs from Monday, April 10th-Friday, April 21st.
