Sum of All Sports Report: NFL Putting a Stop to Referee Abuse

In what could be labeled the Billy Martin rule in Major League Baseball, the National Football League has now decided to crack down on the use of offensive language on the sidelines during a live game. If my research proves to be correct, no head coach in NFL history has ever been ejected from a game. However, with this rule in place, that seems destined to change.

After diving deep into the pool of cross examination, the NFL has made a rule change that will allow referees to eject non-players who get two unsportsmanlike penalties in a game. Essentially, this means head coaches, managers, trainers and any other staff member will be tossed if things happen to get dicey in an official’s eyes.  The two-foul rule applies only to certain types of fouls, including abusive language toward an opponent or official. It’s rare for a coach to get flagged for abusive language twice in one game, but now it seems inevitable. The question is, who will be the first coach ejected? My money is on the Arizona Cardinals’ head coach, Bruce Arians. Who do you have?

Dive further into this topic with Fantasy Sports Analyst and Real Sports Writer Tony Cutillo as he welcomes all comments and opinions. He uses his expertise to elaborate on all the top stories of the week while using his perspective to gauge interest. Here are his other sticking points he has up for interpretation this week:

NBA. Jayson Tatum looks to be special. When we all found out the Sixers and Celtics were swapping draft picks, we knew Danny Ainge had an agenda. We now know that agenda was Jayson Tatum. He was one of the stars of the NBA Summer League averaging 17.7 points on 42.2 percent shooting  along with eight rebounds per game. We all know it’s Summer League, but pure talent shows up everywhere.

NFL. Jerry Jones play Houdini once again. The Dallas Cowboys have turned into a Hollywood sideshow this offseason with TMZ camped out at their facility waiting for the next blunder. Ezekiel Elliot gave us a treat with his moves on the field last season, but it now seems like he just can’t focus on football. From domestic violence issues and physical altercations, he has found himself locked in a circle of uncertainty. Unfortunately for humanity, but fortunately for him, the witnesses to these acts seems to be unavailable, leaving the police no choice but to suspend the investigation. Seems odd and peculiar, doesn’t it? I wonder where Jerry Jones has been?

Fantasy Baseball. Chris Sale continues to dominate. Having another fantastic season, Chris Sale has rewarded his fantasy owners with consistency and high scoring outputs. His dominance is highlighted by a 21.2 average per start that goes up with every pitch. He even reached a MLB milestone when he recorded his 200th strikeout in his 20th start of the season. In doing so, he joins the trio of Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson and Pedro Martinez as the only hurlers in big league history to strike out 200 or more batters in 20 or fewer starts. Not too bad, huh?

Fantasy Football. Are Carson Palmer’s fantasy days numbered? Carson Palmer has had some excellent fantasy seasons in his career and at one time was considered Tier 1. However, with injuries taking a toll and his arm strength looking to be dwindling, he looks to be on his way out of starting contention. He was quoted as saying he wore his arm out last year and had been ordered to rest it all offseason. This certainly doesn’t sound like a guy who will be leading your fantasy team to the league championship, does it?

WWE. Will Kurt Angle ever wrestle again? When Kurt Angle made his WWE return, most of us thought he would eventually have some in-ring action, even if it was just for “one more match.” After spending months as the RAW general manager, and news of him never getting medically cleared to perform, it seems he may never lace up the boots again. In my opinion, if he doesn’t return to the ring, it will be a failed experiment to bring the Olympic hero back home. He needs to have one more match.
