What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: September 15-17

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend

1. Manayunk Restaurant Week

Where: Various locations
When: Friday, September 15th through Thursday, September 28th

As one restaurant week closes another begins. This Friday kicks off the Manayunk StrEAT Foot Festival. Several participating restaurants and eateries will be serving up specialized three-course meals with prices ranging from $15, $25, and $25. Come out and eat at these great dining spots in one of the best areas in Philadelphia.

2. Phillies vs. A’s

Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Park Way
When: Friday, September 15th-Sunday, September 17th

The Philadelphia Phillies will be taking on the Oakland A’s in a three game series this weekend. Come out to the ballpark on Friday and Saturday for 7PM game times and Sunday at 1:30PM for all the action. This will be one of the many sports attractions in the city this weekend and a great way to cheer one of your local favorites.

3. Sam Hunt

Where: BB&T Pavilion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Friday, September 15th, 7PM

Country music star Sam Hunt will be bringing his 15 In A 30 Tour to the BB&T Pavilion this Friday night. Along with opening acts Maren Morris, Chris Janson, and Ryan Follese the Grammy nominee will be rocking the amphitheater crowd. Come hear the “Body Like a Back Road” singer.

4. Young the Giant

Where: Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing, 601 N Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Friday, September 15th, 7PM

California alternative rock band Young the Giant will be hitting up one of the many outdoor concert venues in the city this Friday. The Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing will be filled with the great music of this musical act’s 2016 release Home of the Strange and many other albums.

5. Father John Misty

Where: Skyline Stage at the Mann, 5201 Parkside Ave
When: Friday, September 15th, 7PM

Speaking of outdoor concert venues, indie rock and folk singer Father John Misty will be performing on the Skyline Stage at the Mann Center this weekend. He released his a studio album titled Pure Comedy in April of this year. Come see this talented musical act that has collaborated with several musical heavyweights and favorites.

6. Post Malone

Where: Electric Factory, 421 N. 7th St.
When: Friday, September 15th, 8PM

There’s no better place to hear a live “White Iverson” rendition than in the city that made that name famous. This Friday night hip hop act Post Malone will be lighting up he Electric Factory stage with his blazing music. You’ll have a firsthand seat to take in the tracks from the certified platinum rapper’s debut album.

7. Opera Philadelphia

Where: Various locations
When: Runs through the end of the month

The O17 Festival begins this week. Several groundbreaking opera performances will come to life on many locations in the city. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute  will be front and center on the Academy of Music stage. Elizabeth Cree will be making its global premiere. The new and innovative opera is based on Peter Ackroyd’s novel, The Trial of Elizabeth Cree. 

8. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

Where: Walnut Street Theatre, 825 Walnut St.
When: Runs through Sunday, October 22nd

Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum is a great comedic musical that has been running at he Walnut Street Theatre since the beginning of the month. Stephen Sondheim’s  Tony Award-winning Best Musical production has a talented cast and performers that will add a dazzling attraction to your weekend.

9. Fireflies

Where: Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Friday, September 15th through Sunday, October 8th

Starting this week, each Thursday through Sunday from 6PM to 10PM the Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be illuminated. RSVP or walk up for a free bicycle ride to any of the Sister Cities Parks on the parkway. This artistic collaboration with Cai Guo-Qiang is a luminary spectacle.

10. Rittenhouse Square Fine Arts Show

Where: Rittenhouse Square, 210 W. Rittenhouse Sq.
When: Friday, September 15th-Sunday, September 17th

The Rittenhouse Square Fine Arts Show is in its 90th year. This weekend the outdoor artistic collective will be one the most collaborative events in the city. Come see all the tremendously gifted artists as they display their work across several mediums.

11. Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon

Where: Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Saturday, September 16th and Sunday, September 17th

A fitness and endurance race begins the rollout of Saturday’s events. The 2017 Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon will be navigating through the city this weekend. This racing event will bring awareness and fundraise for the American Association for Cancer Research.

12. Mural Arts Monument Lab

Where: Various locations
When: Saturday, September 16th through Sunday, November 19th

Mural Arts Monuments Lab will be sweeping the city for the next few months. If you’ve happened to walk past the Municipal Building recently you’ve seen some of the various structures adorning the area. This Saturday at 1PM City Hall will be hosting a free launching event in ehich several artists will be explaining their works.

13. Philadelphia Athletics Weekend at Shibe

Where: Shibe Vintage Sports, 137 S. 13th St.
When: Saturday, September 16th, 4PM-5PM

All weekend athletics and memorabilia hotspot Shibe Vintage Sports will be having amazing discounts on several items in the store. This Saturday come out to see vintage baseball scorecards and the collectibles. On Saturday evening  University of Pennsylvania Professor of History Bruce Kuklick will be on site discussing his latest work “To Every Thing a Season: Shibe Park and Urban Philadelphia, 1909-1976”.

14. Temple vs. UMass

Where: Lincoln Financial Field, 1 Lincoln Financial Field Way
When: Saturday, September 16th, 7PM

Fresh off their close and hard-fought win against local team Villanova, the Temple Owls will be taking on the UMass Minutemen. This Saturday come to Lincoln Financial Field to cheer on the 2-1 team as they look to secure the third win of the season.

15. Philly United Jazz Festival

Where: South Street West between 15th and 16th Street
When: Saturday, September 16th, 2PM-10PM

This Philadelphia United Jazz Festival will be this Saturday. This event celebrates all the glorious wonders that the local jazz scene brings to the city. There will be live musical performances, an African dance and drum ensemble, and more. There will be 10 separate acts on display at this gathering.

16. N2N Festival

Where: 50th & Baltimore Ave.
When: Saturday, September 16th, 12PM-8PM

The Neighbor 2 Neighbor (N2N) Festival has something for every R&B and soul music fan in the city. This Saturday you’ll be able to hear the sounds of musical greats Questlove, Sheila E., Morris Day & The Time, PnB Rock, and more. Come to this fantastic tribute for Prince and have a great time.

17. Oktobearfest

Where: Philadelphia Zoo, 3400 W. Girard Ave.
When: Saturday, September 16th, 5PM-8PM

The Philadelphia Zoo has added a new annual event to its calendar this year. The wildlife institution will be hosting a Oktobearfest. There will be over 100 beers on location, 10 food trucks, live music, several games and prizes, and much more.

18. Oktoberfest at Frankford Hall

Where: Frankford Hall, 1210 Frankford Ave.
When: Saturday, September 16th, 12PM-10PM

PHLOktoberfest at Frankford Hall will be a main event in the area throughout the day Saturday. There will be tons of beer on hand and plenty of German food. Ja Ja Ja’s, DJ’s Skeme Richards, Craig Dash, and Mad Beatz Drumline will be providing the live music for the drinking jamboree.

19. Brauhaus Schmitz Oktoberfest

Where: Brauhaus Schmitz, 718 South St.
When: Saturday, September 16th, 12PM-8PM

Brauhaus Schmitz will also be hosting an Oktoberfest themed party of its own. The South Street gathering will have 10 German beers on draught, traditional cultural food, live music, performances, vendors, and so much more.

20. Dolores

Where: Ritz Five, 214 Walnut St.
When: Saturday, September 16th, 7PM-10PM

Just in time to get you primed for the upcoming Philadelphia Film Festival, Ritz Five will be hosting a special screening of Dolores. The documentary film tells the story of radical activist Dolores Huerta. There will be a Q&A after the movie with the filmmakers and Huerta.

21. Mount Airy Village Fair 2017

Where: Mt. Airy Village, Greene St. and Carpenter Ln.
When: Sunday, September 17th, 11AM-4PM

The 2017 Mount Airy Village Fair is taking place this Sunday. This neighborhood gathering and celebration will have live music, performances, vendors, food trucks, games, prizes, a pet parade, pie eating contest, face painting, and a local firefighters display.

22. Brazilian Day

Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 S. Columbus Blvd.
When: Sunday, September 17th, 1PM-7PM

The Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing will be buzzing with this fantastic cultural event this Sunday. PECO Multicultural Series will be hosting Brazilian Day, a wonderful soiree promoting the greatness of a rich and storied people. There will be traditional music, dancing, performances, workshops, and more.

23. Feria del Barrio

Where: North 5th Street between Huntingdon and Somerset St.
When: Sunday, September 17, 12PM-5PM

The 34th Annual Feria Del Barrio is this Sunday. Presented by Xfinity, Creative Philadelphia, Health Partners and others, this festival will be a symbol of the togetherness and closeness that the Latino culture permeates through the city. There will be live dancing, music, awards, and more.

24. Philly Free Week

Where: Philadelphia Magic Gardens, 1020 South St.
When: Sunday, September 17th-Friday, September 22nd

Philadelphia Magic Gardens will be free all week. The opening day of the wallet friendly event begins this Sunday. You’ll get access to the outdoor labyrinth, the artistic galleries in the space, daily discussions and talks, and more. There will be live music and treats on location as well.

25. Outlaw Music Festival

Where: BB&T Pavilion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Sunday, September 17th,

The Outlaw Music Festival will be another musical event that will takeover the BB&T Pavilion this weekend. Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, and many others will be serenading the spacious crowd with plenty of hits. Come see these great acts in music this Sunday.
