What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: September 29-October 1

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend

1. Terror Behind the Walls

Where: Eastern State Penitentiary, 2027 Fairmount Ave.
When: Runs through Saturday, November 11th

The Eastern State Penitentiary opens its doors each Halloween season for some thrilling and terror filled tours. The former high-profile prison will have many frightening attractions coming to each cell block starting this week. Bring your family and friends out to this horrifying institution that will be filled with thunderous sounds, shocking moments, and more.

2. Phillies vs. Mets

Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way
When: Friday, September 29th-Sunday, October 1st

The divisional last place Philadelphia Phillies will be wrapping up their season soon. This weekend will mark the final home games of their lackluster baseball season. The local club will be taking on the New York Mets this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There will be a fan appreciation day Sunday where Citizens Bank will have giveaways and prizes.

3. Oktoberfest

Where: PHS Pop Up Garden, 1438 South St.
When: Runs through Sunday, October 1st

PHS Pop Up Beer Garden has two locations in the city. The South Street hangout will be having a Oktoberfest celebration this Friday. The festivities will include live music by the Oompah Band, a pretzel tossing competition, a costume contest, a Paulaner and Bratwurst eating contest, face painting for kids, and plenty of drinks.

4. Tiny Titans Opening Weekend

Where: The Academy of Natural Sciences, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Runs through Monday, January 15th

This weekend is the Tiny Titans Opening Weekend at The Academy of Natural Sciences. The exhibit Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies will dive your imagination into a prehistoric interesting world of wonder. The opening event will have an egg dropping contest, a live animal showcase, a microscope intensive, information panels, and many cool things for the whole family.

5. Terracotta Warriors of the First Emperor

Where: The Franklin Institute, 222 N. 20th St.
When: Runs through Sunday, March 4th

Another exhibit opening this weekend is at The Franklin Institute. Terracotta Warriors of the First Emperor is one of the most anticipated features at this learning hub this year. After  their discovery by a Chinese farmer in 1974, these treasured sculptures have toured the world. Stop by anytime from this weekend to the Spring of 2018 to get a glimpse of these amazing artifacts.

6. Korean Harvest Festival

Where: Morris Arboretum, 100 E. Northwestern Ave.
When: Saturday, September 30th, 11AM-3PM

The Korean Harvest Festival kicks-off at the Morris Arboretum this Saturday morning. The cultural festivities will have garden tours, food displays and samplings, live music, performances, and more. There will be plenty of plants native to Korea shown off at this collaborative event. The food selection will be abundant. You’ll find everything from Asian pears to kimchi here.

7. Ciderfest

Where: Various locations in the Lemon Hill area
When: Saturday, September 30th, 12PM-4PM

The burgeoning of Autumn brings many things. Whether you’re switching up your wardrobe or coffee flavors, fall cultivates a new routine in many areas. Fall also brings the best season for hard ciders and seasonal brews. Six historic houses in Fairmount Park will be hosting Ciderfest this Saturday. Tickets are $40 and gets you access to plenty cider libations, live music, food, and a fantastic time.

8. South Philly Sausage Fest

Where: West Passyunk Ave, S. Broad Street to 15th Street
When: Saturday, September 30th, 12PM-8PM

Another seasonal celebration is the annual South Philly Sausage Fest. The yearly craft beer party continues to liven up the Newbold and West Passyunk neighborhood of the city. The sausage themed event will have plenty of musical performances, drinks, a plethora of vendors, arts and crafts, and a kids play area.

9. Temple vs. Houston Cougars

Where: Lincoln Financial Field, 1 Lincoln Financial Field Way
When: Saturday, September 30th, 12PM

Come to Lincoln Financial Field to see the Temple Owls (2-2) take on the Houston Cougars (2-1) in an American Conference showdown. The Owls are coming off an embarrassing loss to the South Florida Bulls and would like nothing more than to cement a win in front of a raucous home crowd.

10. Kennett Brewfest

Where: Kennett Square, Kennett Square
When: Saturday, September 30th, 1:30PM-5:30PM

Kennett Square is an hour outside of the city however its massive craft beer celebration this weekend is certianly worth mentioning. The 20th Annual Kennett Brewfest is this Saturday and will have tons of breweries represents, food vendors, live music, merchandise and clothing merchants, a gamer area, and many more activities.

11. Oktoberfest Live!

Where: XFINITY Live! 1100 Pattison Ave.
When: Saturday, September 30th, 2PM-7PM

XFINITY Live! hosts the fall installment of its year-round craft beer celebrations this Saturday. Oktoberfest Live! will be overflowing with people, German food and fare, culturally themed beers, and more. This entertainment hotspot will have live music, prizes and giveaways, and plenty of drinks.

12. Kid Cudi

Where: The Mann Center, 5200 Parkside Ave.
When: Saturday, September 30th, 7:30PM

Cleveland rapper Kid Cudi will be blazing the Skyline Stage at The Mann Center this Saturday night. The “Day ‘n’ Nite” hip hop act’s Passion, Pain, & Demon Slayin’ Tour brings the spotlight to his feature 2016 album with the same title. Come hear many track from that production of his previous Man on the Moon compilations.

13. 37th Annual Media Food & Crafts Festival

Where: State St. Media, PA
When: Sunday, October 1st, 9AM-5PM

Another festival tangent to the city this weekend is the 37th annual Media food & Crafts Festival. There will be 75 craft vendors on hand peddling clothes, jewelry, antiques, furniture, handmade crafts, home and beauty products, and more. There will also be plenty of food for sale from local culinary spots and live music.

14. Museum Sundays

Where: Barnes Foundation, 2025 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy and Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Sunday, October 1st, 10AM-5PM

The first Sunday of the month always brings the masses out two these two top notch artistic institutions in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Barnes Foundation will be hosting their free admission and pay-what-you-wish entry Sundays this weekend. Stop by either of these museums to see classic and moving pieces by truly talented individuals.

15. Federal Donuts Block Party

Where: Federal Donuts, 1632 Sansom St.
When: Sunday October 1st, 1PM-4PM

Donut heaven and eatery Federal Donuts will be having an exciting soiree this Sunday afternoon. There will be several food options, face painting, Yards Brewery flowing, live music, a DJ, and more. Bring the whole family out for the games, dunk tank, caricatures, donut wall, dramatic performances, book signings, and other fun activities.

16. Philadelphia Union vs. Seattle Sounders

Where: Talen Energy Stadium, 1 Stadium Dr. , Chester, PA
When: Sunday, October 1st, 1PM

The Philadelphia Union will be taking on the Seattle Sounders FC this Sunday at 1PM. Come out to Talen Energy Stadium to cheer on the local team as they look to secure their tenth win of the season. This will be a great matchup to see live especially since it’s the last home game of the season.

17. Philadelphia 76ers Scrimmage

Where: The Palestra, 223 S. 33rd St.
When: Sunday, October 1st, 1PM-3:30PM

 76ers season is rapidly coming! This Sunday the organization will give season ticker holders and the season ticket waiting list faithful a sneak peek glimpse of the roster. There will be a special inner squad scrimmage fro the fans. If you’re a qualifying “Raise the Cat” faithful, come out to The Palestra.

18. Sippin’ By The River

Where: Manayunk Brewery & Restaurant, 4120 Main St.
When: Sunday, October 1st, 1PM-5PM

The Manayunk Brewery and Restaurant will be holding a special beer and wine party this Sunday. Sippin’ By The River will have grape stomping, apple bobbing, a pie eating contest, and so much more. There will be plenty of wine, craft beers, and ciders to sample as well. This will be a great way to enjoy this fantastic weather weekend.

19. Citylight Fall Fest

Where: Gorgas Park, 6300 Ridge Ave.
When: Sunday, October 1st, 1PM-4PM

The Citylight Fall Festival is this Sunday. Gorgas Park will be full and flushed with food trucks, liver music stages, ice cream vendors, and more. There will be lawn games, a photo booth, and a face painting area for the whole family. This great community event has bridge and brought the community together for five years. Don’t miss your chance to take part this year.
