Earlier this offseason it looked like Pederson was going to up the responsibilities of Staley and Groh without promoting either of them to offensive coordinator. Now it seems like one of the two will fill Frank Reich’s old position.
Either coach should fit into the roll perfectly as they both worked perfectly with their position groups. Staley got Jay Ajayi up to speed quick after he was acquired at the deadline and got the most out of LeGarrette Blount and Corey Clement. Groh’s work with Nelson Agholor alone is reason for him to get the promotion.
If I’m Doug Pederson I lean ever-so-slightly towards Staley. While the OC won’t call plays on this team, it wouldn’t hurt having a former running back in his ear telling him he needs to run the ball a little more. Hiring Groh as OC would be good, too. As long as the hire is made from within the Eagles will be in good shape.
