The Eagles are reportedly discussing a contract extension with Patrick Robinson

Patrick Robinson was the biggest bargain during last year’s free agency for the Philadelphia Eagles, but now he’ll be looking to cash in.

According to a report by NJ.com, the Eagles have begun talks with Robinson about a potential long-term extension.

Robinson, who signed a one-year deal with the Birds for a mere $1 million last offseason, struggled during Training Camp before putting together a career year from the slot position. And of course we remember what he did in the NFC Championship Game when he returned a Case Keenum interception 50 yards for a touchdown.

Here’s the problem, however. The Eagles currently have the least amount of salary cap space in the NFL and with Robinson turning 31 in September, this is his chance to get one more big pay day before his career is over. Unless he’d return on a cap friendly deal, I’m not so sure this is going to happen.

Re-signing linebacker Nigel Bradham is priority No. 1 for the Eagles this offseason. The depth at linebacker is more scarce than cornerback. Although the Birds would have to figure out who would man the slot if Robinson isn’t re-signed, they would be four deep at the position with Ronald Darby, Jalen Mills, Rasul Douglas and Sidney Jones returning from injury. If Bradham walks, the injury-prone Jordan Hicks and Mychal Kendricks would be the only reliable linebackers on the roster.

NFL free agency begins on March 14th, we’ll know a lot more about what the Eagles will be doing in two weeks.
