NFL analysis: The day after … Week 2

Are you looking for scores, recaps, highlights, and predictions all in one place? In this segment, I will try to give a quick recap of what happened yesterday in my own words and give a quick prediction of what I see happening on Monday night. The Browns are still winless, the word TIE shows up in the stat sheet again, a veteran retires at halftime, and the Cardinals are still wondering what happened to their talents.

Just another day in the NFL.

Here’s the rest of the day’s action:

Rams 34, Cardinals 0

The Rams impressed for the 2nd week in a row, while the Cardinals are still looking for answers. In a crazy stat, the Cardinals only managed to get the ball across midfield one time during the game. One thing is for sure, Sam Bradford isn’t the answer they are looking for.

Dolphins 20, Jets 12

It may have been a loss, but Sam Darnold has solidified his reign as the future for the Jets in just two short games. Sure, he made some mistakes, but nothing reminiscent of the past list of New York QBs who tried to lead this team. On the other side of the ball, Ryan Tannehill continues to look scared in the pocket and hesitant to pull the trigger at times. As we all know, injuries take time to heal, mentally and physically.

Titans 20, Texans 17

This was supposed to be Watson’s breakout game, but after only 56 yards in the first half, it looked like we would have to wait another week. O’Brien has to get better O-line play and must besides himself knowing he just lost to a guy named Gabbert.

Colts 21, Redskins 9

The Redskins couldn’t move the ball and lived by the dink-and-dunk all afternoon. On the other side of the ball, Andrew Luck continued to make up for the deficiencies along the O-line and worked his magic to a win.

Chargers 31, Bills 20

This game wasn’t even close. Melvin Gordon is showing he may be the #2 RB in the league behind Gurley, while the Bills are so bad they made a veteran retire at halftime. Buffalo is in a very bad place right now. Very bad.

Chiefs 42, Steelers 37

This was Patrick Mahomes’ coming out party as he showed why the Chiefs decided to go with him under center this year. Andy Reid knows his QBs and this kid is making him smile again. While he was throwing TDs to multiple receivers, Antonio Brown was complaining on the Steelers’ sideline that he wasn’t getting enough. Some things never change.

Saints 21, Browns 18

Will every Cleveland Brown game end with an image of Hue Jackson looking like he played the lead role in the movie The Sixth Sense? Another contest that should have resulted in a Browns win turns into mismanaged loss.

Bucs 27, Eagles 21

While Fitz was doing interviews in his newly purchased Boogie Nights gear, Nick Foles was still trying to search for the same team who won a Super Bowl. So far, the Eagles have played down to their competition and the Bucs look like a revived team playing without their hopeful franchise QB. Don’t be surprised if Ftizmagic continues to wave his wand even when Jameis returns.

Falcons 31, Panthers 24

Matt Ryan and Cam Newton went 10 rounds with Ryan coming out on top with the knockout blow to Austin Hooper. Cam has shown his struggles without his favorite target in Greg Olsen and still is searching for his go-to guy. He threw for 300+ yards and 3 TDs, but nothing came easy this Sunday.

Packers 29, Vikings 29

Another week, another tie. But this game was still very entertaining.

49ers 30, Lions 27

The 49ers escaped with a win as the Lions took too long to get started. Jimmy G continues to stare down receivers, while Matt Patricia is still trying to learn who his true players are. These are uncharted waters for the former Patriot assistant.

Broncos 20, Raiders 19

Chucky let this game get out of reach when he every opportunity to seal the victory. Lynch and Cooper played well, but the defense couldn’t stop Case when they needed. Paging Kahlil Mack, paging Mr. Mack…

Jaguars 31, Patriots 20

Doug Marrone is 2-0 and has the Jaguars headed right back to the playoffs. This isn’t the same Patriot team from a year ago as they have holes to exploit. This is exactly what Bortles and co. did.

Cowboys 20, Giants 13

In a less than riveting game, the Cowboys ride mediocrity to a win while Eli is still trying to uber his way to protection. The Giants need to protect their 37-year-old QB if they want any chance to be competitive.

Looking ahead to Monday Night Football:

Seahawks vs. Bears (Prediction: CHI 21, SEA 10)

Both teams are searching for an offensive identity, while the Bears defense is on the rise. In a game where Russell Wilson will be without multiple offensive weapons, Mack and company will be ready to feast on any incapable player who steps on the field. Feeding time starts early!

Until next week…
