1. Black History Month Events this Weekend

Black History Month continues to roll along in the City of Brotherly Love. The cultural significant and celebratory month seeks to educate, inform, and create discourse amongst the populace about the great accomplishments of African-Americans through the centuries. This Saturday there will be a tremendous drum dance performance featuring the Kulu Mele African Dance and Drum Ensemble at Taller Puertorriqueño. Also this weekend the African American Museum of Philadelphia has created a fictional exhibit called THE COLORED MUSEUM.

2. Closing this Week: Philly Theatre Week

When: Various times

Theatre Philadelphia has been hosting several theatrical events and activities throughout the past week. This weekend, shows include Duets By Strangers, Betrayal, Julius Ceasar, 74 Seconds…To Judgment, and several other stellar productions.

3. Closing this Week: Oleanna at Walnut Street Theatre

Where: Walnut Street Theatre, 825 Walnut St.
When: Runs through Sunday, February 17

Pulitzer Prize Winner David Mamet’s play Oleanna will be closing its run at the Walnut Street Theatre this weekend. This perspective shaping tale paints the story of a professor and his student viewing their study sessions in a different light. Come out for a night of twists, character manipulation, and phenomenal performances before it’s too late.

4. Best Picture Weekend

Where: Philadelphia Film Center, 1412 Chestnut Street
When: Friday, February 15th-Sunday, February 17th

The Prince Theater’s main stage will feature a lineup of every Academy Award Best Picture nominee over the weekend. A Star is Born, Black Panther, BlacKKKlansman, Roma, Vice, and more will be on the menu. Movie fanatics can get a weekend pass for $50.

5. Philly Home + Garden Show

Where: Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Avenue, Oaks
When: Friday, February 15th-Sunday, February 17th

The Philly Home + Garden Show will be taking of the city over the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center over the next few days. There will be a massive number of vendors, textile merchants, lighting and sound companies, landscape architects, gardening experts, and more. TLC’s “Trading Spaces” host Ty Pennington will be on location this Saturday at 11 am.

6. Philadelphia Tattoo Arts Convention

Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch Street
When: Friday, February 15th-Sunday, February 17th

If you’re looking for inspiration for your next tattoo or piercing, you’ll find it at the Pennsylvania Convention Center this weekend. Several outstanding tattoo artists and vendors will be on full display. There will be exhibitions, demonstrations, food, drinks, and more at this creative annual event.

7. Big Philly Beerfest

Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch Street
When: Friday, February 15th-Saturday, February 16th

The Big Philly Beerfest is this Friday and Saturday. There will be over 125 breweries represents at this blowout drinking festival. Thousands of craft beers will be huddled in the Pennsylvania Convention Center sampling some of the best local and international brews around.

8. Presidents Day Celebrations

Where: Various locations
When: Through Monday, February 18th

This coming Monday is President’s Day. The American holiday will be celebrated all over the city at several venues and institutions. The National Museum of American Jewish History National Liberty Museum, Museum of the American Revolution, National Constitution Center, and other institutions will be celebrating the occasion.

9. Andrew McMahon

Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness

Where: The Met Philadelphia, 858 N. Broad St.
When: Friday, February 15th, 7:30PM

Vocalist, pianist, and songwriter Andrew McMahon will be performing at The Met Philadelphia this Friday night. The former Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin act will be bringing his In the Wilderness Tour to the city for a special night. The indie and alternative act released his latest album Upside Down Flowers in November of 2018.

10. Independence Seaport Museum Weekend

Where: Independence Seaport Museum, 211 S. Christopher Columbus Boulevard
When: Friday, February 15th-Sunday, February 17th

This weekend the Independence Seaport Museum will have several tremendous events. Friday the new exhibit The British Mistake opens. Saturday, the Independence Seaport Museum and The Franklin Institute will collaborate to bring “Battle for the Ages: Pirate vs. Viking.” Throughout the day, follow the battle as Pirate and Viking duel on two different battlefields, looking to claim once and for all domination of Philadelphia.

11. Mythic Creatures: Dragons, Unicorns & Mermaids

Where: The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway
When: Saturday, February 16th – Sunday, June 9th

The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University will be opening a new intense exhibit this week. Mythic Creatures: Dragons, Unicorns & Mermaids explores the tall tales of griffins, giants, and unicorns. “Learn why so many legendary water spirits look like mermaids. Touch fossils, explore winged mythological creatures, build your own dragon and come face to face with a giant legendary sea monster.”

12. Mural Arts Philadelphia Valentine’s Day Love Letters Tours

Where: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), Hamilton Building, 128 N. Broad St.
When: Saturday, February 16th and Sunday, February 17, 10:30AM and 1:00PM

Mural Arts will be having immersing subway tours this weekend of the various murals in the city. Guests will hop the on the subway and be amazed by the harvest of artistic greatness adorning several buildings in the city. “each mural is an open-ended love letter, from an artist to his hometown, from an individual to a neighborhood, from one lover to another. Hear the stories behind these murals on this exciting and unique tour from a professionally trained guide.”

13. Red Wings vs. Flyers

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 Broad St.
When: Saturday, February 16th, 1 PM

The Philadelphia Flyers will be hosting the Detroit Red Wings this Saturday afternoon. The Flyers have been surging as of late, only losing one game in the month. This Eastern Conference matchup is not one that you’ll want to miss. Bring all the cheers and screams for this clash on the ice.

14. New England Blackwolves vs. Philadelphia Wings

When: Saturday, February 16th, 7PM

It’s time to show professional across some love. The Philadelphia Wings will be home and facing off against the New England Blackwolves this Saturday night. The Wells Fargo Center will be rocking yet again, as the (1-7) home team is in desperate need of a win.

15. Artist Bash: Take Me Home

Where:Barnes Foundation, 2025 Benjamin Franklin Parkway
When: Saturday, February 16th, 8PM-11PM

The Barnes Foundation will be partying it up Saturday night. The theme and nuance of “home” will be explored through live performances at this installment of Artist Bash. There will be drinks, great entertainment, live music, dancing, and more. The immersive night will include a performance by Julian Saporiti of No-No Boy; choreographer and dancer Rhonda Moore; a cappella by Sistahs Attune; performance artist Gabrielle Revlock; choreographer and dancer Christina Castro-Tauser; fashion by Nyxal; and vocalist-composer Ruth Naomi Floyd.

16. Action Bronson

Where: Franklin Music Hall, 421 N 7th St.
When: Saturday, February 16th, 8:30PM

TV host, chef, author, actor, and rapper Action Bronson will be performing at the Franklin Music Hall this Saturday night. The Flushing, New York native 2018 project White Bronco will be the featured during his set that spans several prominent tracks that surged his name to notoriety.

17. Dorothy

Ones To Watch Presents: Dorothy

Where: Theatre of Living Arts, 334 South St.
When: Saturday, February 16th, 8PM

Dorothy will be playing at the Theatre of the Living Arts this Saturday night. The Los Angeles rock band released their debut album Rockisdeadin June of 2016. Since that time, the “Raise Hell” band released their second studio album 28 Days in the Valley in March of last year. Come see this killer band electrify the audience and rock the house.

18. Boyz II Men

Boyz II Men

Where: The Met Philadelphia, 858 N. Broad St.
When: Saturday, February 16th, 8PM

Boyz II Men will be playing in front of the hometown crowd this Saturday night at the Met Philadelphia. It’s been 28 years since the R&B legends released their first album. The “I’ll Make Love to You” and “On Bended Knee” icons will be serenading droves of fans all night long.

19. Cirque Mechanics

Where: Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, 3680 Walnut St.
When: Sunday, February 17th, 2PM

The New York Times called Cirque Mechanics 42FT – A Menagerie of Mechanical Marvels “42 feet full of thrills, laughs and excitement. At the heart of every circus, a 42-foot ring promises entertainment like none other.” Come to the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts to see tremendous displays of acrobatics, athleticism, strength, drama, and grace.

20. Fire and Ice

Where: City Tap House-University City, 3925 Walnut St.
When: Sunday, February 17th, 1PM-4PM

City Tap House University City will be hosting their Fire and Ice Festival this Sunday. There will be an ice sculpture showdown, a chili cookoff, shot luges, drinks specials, and more. CJ Smooth will be providing the soundtrack for this amazing event.

21. UFC Fight Night

UFC Fight Night - Ngannou vs Velasquez

Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Sunday, February 17th, 7PM

Punch Line Philly will be hosting a UFC Fight Night this Sundy. The Northern Liberties entertainment venue will be displaying Ngannou vs. Velasquez on screens throughout. There will be drink specials including $5 victory drafts, food steals, and more.
