The Spotlight of the Week: Milk Boy Celebrates Women’s History Month 

In celebration of National Women’s History Month, MilkBoy is going all out and will become MilkGirl from March 4 to March 15, with a docket full of all female performances, comedy, karaoke, and an exclusive beer release from New Belgium Brewing, which all benefit Girls Behind the Rock Show.

All MilkGirl events will benefit Girls Behind the Rock Show, a charity dedicated to helping young women become involved in the music scene. There are several events at both locations in the city to choose from through Sunday.

Thursday, March 7th at 9 pm – Sara Sher of Sing Your Life Karaoke hosts Women Who Rock Karaoke with songs by female-led bands

Friday, March 8 at 8 pm – “Women Who Kill It… In Comedy” with some of the greater Philadelphia area’s funniest women:

Chanel Ali, a standup comedian who blossomed on the Philadelphia circuit who is currently cast in multiple shows such as MTV’s The Girl Code
Alyssa Al-Dookhi, an Arab American comedian who recently performed at the 2018 Women in Comedy Festival presented by HBO.
Latice Klapa, a weekly radio show host who has performed on The View for “Hilarious Housewives.”
Tan Hoan, a Philly local seen at Philadelphia’s Bechdel Test Fest

Saturday, March 9 at 8 pm – Laughs on Philly Presents: Abby Rosenquist and Peggy O’Leary

Friday, March 15, 5-8 pm – Extended happy hour with female-owned, New Belgium Brewing // Imbibers will receive an exclusive first-look at Mural, a new aqua fresca style beer. This light and refreshing beer, brewed with watermelon, lime, hibiscus and lime, will be exclusively available at MilkBoy Philly until it is released to the public in April. A female DJ will set the mood with music from female artists.

This Week in Cocktails: Flower Show Libations 

Art in the Age: Old City’s one-of-a-kind tasting room, home bar supply, and bottle shop, will be serving up floral-inspired cocktails for the entire month of March in anticipation of the spring equinox and to celebrate the flower show. Stop by for a Hibiscus Boulevardier for $13 (Kinsey Bourbon Whiskey, AITA Sierra Fig Cordial, Lo-Fi Gentian Amaro, Jack Ruby Aromatic Bitters.) They also have a Lavender Negroni (Damon Gin, Dolin blanc, Lillet, Dashfire Lavender Bitters) and a Gin Blossom (Barrel Aged Flora Gin, Jack Ruby Classic Tonic Syrup, Blooming Tea Flower, hot water) for $14 each.

The Bar by Bluebird Distilling at The Bourse: The Bar by Bluebird Distilling at The Bourse is located just steps from Independence Hall in Old City. They’re offering a riff on the Aviation cocktail with their lavender flavored Flora Airliner. This floral explosion, with Juniperus gin, lavender syrup, Crème Yvette, lemon juice, and Luxardo Marachino. The cocktail is topped with an edible flower and is available for $7 from March 4th-10th.

CO-OP Restaurant and Lounge: CO-OP Restaurant and Lounge is offering flower show goers a Garden Watermelon mocktail made with Garden Seedlip, a sugar-free distilled non-alcoholic spirit with notes of peas, rosemary, and thyme. Mixed with watermelon and basil shrub, this flavorful zero proof drink is topped with a sprig of fresh basil and is available for $14 all week.

Ocean Prime: Ocean Prime is a convenient walk from the convention center in Center City, is offering its Black Orchid cocktail for $14. Made with Belvedere Intense Unfiltered Vodka, St. Germaine Elderflower Liqueur, hand-squeezed lemon juice, and white cranberry juice, this elegant floral creation is chilled with a frozen orchid ice ball.

Red Owl Tavern: Red Owl Tavern is the New American restaurant and bar located across the street from Independence Mall in Old City, is rising to the occasion with lead bartender Kyle Darrow‘s Ruby Sunrise ($12) cocktail. This bright, bubbly drink combines rose water with sparkling rosé, pomegranate, grapefruit, and Hanger One vodka.

Rex 1516: Rex 1516 is Philly’s go-to for elevated Southern cuisine. The culinary hotspot is celebrating the Flower Show and paying homage to hip-hop’s favorite female rapper with the Cardi P ($11), a delightfully herbal cocktail with a spicy finish, served with rum, lime juice, sparkling wine, cardamom black pepper syrup, and garnished with lime peel and edible flowers. Okurrrr!

Royal Boucherie: Royal Boucherie is Old City’s American-inspired brassiere and raw bar from Nicholas Elmi, will be serving up its floral mocktail, the Lavender Bowtie, for $6 from March 2nd-10th. This gorgeous and Instagrambale ombré beverage (courtesy of Butterfly pea flower tea) boasts grapefruit, soda, and lavender syrup.

East Passyunk Restaurant Week:  East Passyunk Avenue Restaurant Week will continue through this Friday, March 8th. Over 26 restaurants have been featuring three-course prix fixe lunch and/or dinner for $15, $25 or $35.

Craft Hall Opening: Craft Hall opens its doors this Thursday, March 7th. Craft Hall is a vibrant dining, drinking, and entertainment space.  There’s kitchen areas, two bars, a wide range of seating, and more. “Guests will get to see how the beer is brewed, bread is baked, and the food is cooked along with other interactive elements like a playground for kids and adults alike, lawn games, a live music stage and more.”

Ignite Philly 22 at Johnny Brenda’s: Ignite Philly will spark the city of Philadelphia this Thursday. This event will allow participants to give fast-paced five-minute presentations based on slides. The slides appear on the screen for 15 seconds each. The drinks will be flowing and the hilarity will ensue.

Grand Opening Weekend Celebration at Braeloch Brewing: Braeloch Brewing will be having an opening weekend extravaganza this weekend. There will be live music, games, food and freshly brewed beer.

The Future is Female Dance Party: Dance the night away at The Future is Female Dance Party. This blazing party will feature all-female entertainment including Magglezzz, Dame Luz, Baby Berlin, and more.

Lucked Up in Philly: St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl: Starting at JJ Bootleggers, this St. Patrick’s Day bar crawl will sprawl through Old City. Bars like Infusion Lounge, the Gaslight, and Sto’s Bar will all be in on the celebration.

The BIG Exhibit: On the anniversary of Notorious B.I.G’s death, this exhibit features over 30 visual artists present work dedicated to the Notorious B.I.G. Get there early and get a free print and much more.

Daycation Pop Up Day Party: Daycation Day Party Pop Up immersing the city in great vibes and hits this Sunday. Come celerate at this Pacers vs. Sixers afterparty in style. There will be $7 mixed drinks, $5 beers, a happy hour food menu, VIP bottle service, and live music by DJ HBK and DJ Scoota.
