What’s happening in Philly this Labor Day Weekend: Aug. 30 – Sept. 2

1. Closing  Soon: Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest

Where:  Blue Cross RiverRink | 101 S. Columbus Blvd
When: Runs through Monday, September 2

The Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest kicks will be closing its doors this Monday. The entertainment rink that had roller skating, the carnival game area The Midway, mini-golf,  a Chickie’s and Pete’s Crabshack, and a Franklin Fountain Cabin will be going away. Come out for the drinks, the waterfront splendor, and before its too late.

2. Phillies Weekend

Where: Citizens Bank Park | 1 Citizens Bank Way
When: Runs through Sunday, September 1

The Philadelphia Phillies will be taking on New York Mets in a three-game series this weekend. The NL East showdown will put these two teams, jockeying for positioning in the wildcard race, front-and-center. Come out to the ballpark any day this weekend to see all the action.

3. Labor Day Weekend

This Labor Day Weekend there will be plenty of options to entertain all your friend and family. There will be fireworks on the Delaware River Waterfront including music, games, fireworks, and more. Access in One Liberty Observation Deck is also hall-off.  The Spirit of Philadelphia will have cruises all weekend and catch the Once Upon a Nation free storytelling sessions in the Historic District.

4. Hamilton at Forrest Theatre

Where: Forrest Theatre | 1114 Walnut St
When: Runs through Sunday, November 17

There was no way to escape the phenomenal acclaim of Hamilton over the past few years. The Forrest Theatre will be opening its doors to this amazing spectacle talent, vocals, and production prowess. Come to this wonderful theater and be prepared to be wowed.

5. YallaPunk Fest 2019

When: Runs through Sunday, September 1

YallaPunk will be using the arts to celebrate the lives of Southwest Asian North African individuals through the arts. There will be concerts, movies, Q&A discussions, comedy shows, poetry, and more. Johnny Brenda’s and other hotspots in the city will be participating.

6. Volksfest

Where: Cannstatter Volkfest-Verein | 9130 Academy Rd
When: Runs through Monday, September 2

This weekend come out to Volksfest at Canstatter-Verein. This German social club hosts this Labor Day Weekend blowout every year. There will be German beer, music, performances, wines, music and more.  Bring your entire family out to be amused by the rides, eat some bratwurst and frankfurters, and have a fun-filled day.

7. Dog Days of Summer

Where: Museum of the American Revolution | 101 S. 3rd St
When: August 31 – September 2

On Saturday, come to the Museum of the American Revolution with your pups. PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society) and Philly’s Pups for Independence will be on location at this canine-friendly event. Kids 12 and under receive free admission all weekend at the museum and there will be dog treats, activities, and games.

8. Beer Gardens

When: Various times

Parks on TapIndependence Beer GardenCollins Wine GardenPHS Pop-Up, and several other beer gardens in the city will help you perfectly navigate a summer day with a cocktail in hand. The weekend will be beautiful and flowing with people at any of these locations.

9. Final Fridays

Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art | 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy
When: Friday, August 30 | Starting at 5:35 p.m.

Each week the Philadelphia Museum of Art hosts cultural happy hours and evening events. This week is Friday Nights will feature bassist Warren Oree and the Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble. The world-renowned Institute will have phenomenal music and cocktails at this post-work concert.

10. Movie Screenings

Where: Various locations
When: Runs through Saturday, August 31

As the Summer winds down, don’t miss your opportunity to catch many of the outdoor screenings in the city each week. Stop by Bartram’s Garden this Friday for a screening of AquamanAt the Parks on Tap location, Clark Park, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse . The University City area will be full of food trucks, hammocks, and more plenty of brews. The Trolley Car Diner in Mt. Airy will feature Paddington this Saturday.

11. 3rd Annual Made In America Comedy Jam and Afterparty

Where: Punch Line Philly | 33 E. Laurel St
When: Friday, August 30 |  8 p.m.

Punch Line Philly will be hosting a silent party this Friday night. There will be a comedy show and a dance showdown after the show. Partygoers will be coming out to slide on those colorful headphones and dance the night away listening to their favorite music.

12. Lynard Skynard

Where: BB&T Pavillion | 1 Harbour Blvd | Camden, NJ
When: Friday, August 30 |  6 p.m.

“Sweet Home Alabama” legends Lynard Skynard will be rocking the BB&T Pavillion this Friday night. The Camden Waterfront will be serenaded with the southern rock act will be performing “Free Bird” and other thunderous hits.

13. Made in America Festival

Where: Ben Franklin Parkway
When: Saturday, August 31-September 1

It’s Labor Day Weekend in the city of Philadelphia which means its Made in America festival weekend.  Cardi B, Travis Scott, Lizzo, James Blake, Megan Thee Stallion, and plenty others will be rocking the stage at this two-day music extravaganza.

14. Waterfront Day

Where: Various locations
When: Saturday, August 31

Penn’s Landing will be hosting Waterfront Day this Saturday. The day-long festival will include the Spirit of Philadephia, Spruce Street Harbor Park, Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest, and several other venues in the aquatic area. There will be food, drinks, skating, and other deals during the pop-up celebration. It’s $3 off admission at the Independence Seaport Museum. The U.S. Army Band performs at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing at 8 p.m., followed by fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

15. Farmers’ Markets

Where: Various location
When: Various time

Each weekend in the city, several areas in the city are filled with produce and handmade crafts. Head over to Clark Park Farmers’ MarketHeadhouse District Farmers’ MarketRittenhouse Square Farmers’ MarketMarket at the Fareway in Chestnut Hill, or Fairmount Farmers Market for all your needs. For those in collegiate domains, there’s a weekly University City Farmers’ Market and Cecil B. Moore Farmers’ Market.

16. Temple vs Bucknell

Where: Lincoln Financial Field | 1 Lincoln Financial Field Way
When: Saturday, August 31 | 3 p.m.

This Saturday afternoon the Temple Owls will be taking on the Bucknell Bison this weekend. This will be the first game of the season for the local team. Come to the Linc to watch these American Athletic Conference hopeful’s attempt to grasp gridiron glory.

17. Union vs Atlanta United FC

Where: Talen Energy Stadium | 1 Stadium Dr, Chester, PA
When: Saturday, August 31 | 3 p.m.

The Philadephia Union will be taking on Atlanta FC this Saturday night under the bright lights. First place in the Eastern Conference on the line in the battle on the pitch. The match will be intense and the stadium will be rocking.

18. Museum Sundays

Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art | 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy and Barnes Foundation | 2025 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy
When: Sunday, September 1 | 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Sunday come to The Barnes Foundation for PECO Free First Sunday Family Day: African-Caribbean Roots.  There will be art-making and crafts, storytime, a film screenings, a performance by Modupúe | Ibaye: The Philadelphia Yoruba Performance Project and more. Stop by the Philadelphia Museum of Art for pay-what-you-wish Sunday as well.

19. PECO Multicultural Series: Green & Organic Fest

Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing | 101 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Sunday, September 1 | 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

This Sunday is Blue Corn Lifestyle’s Green & Organic Festival. There will be several local farmers, agricultors, artisans, and more on location. The open-air area will be filled with restauranteurs serving up samples, instructionals, traditional performers, and plenty of food.

20. Longwood Gardens Fireworks

When: Sunday, September 1 | 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Longwood Gardens will be having exciting and tremendous fireworks this holiday weekend. There will be an amazing fountain show accompanied to music. Tunes from famous movies like  FootlooseThe Greatest Showman, Slumdog Millionaire, and others will highlight the show.

21. Party in the Park

Where: The Dell Music Center, 2400 Strawberry Mansion Dr
When: Sunday, September 1 | 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Head over to The Dell Music Center this Monday night for Patty Jackson’s Party in the Park. The beloved amphitheater will be filled with the sounds of Philly’s own Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Big Daddy Kane, and Whodini. Thousands of their fans will be flooding the outdoor event center.
