The Philadelphia Eagles have already made one running back addition this offseason and another could reportedly be making his move to Nick Sirianni’s offense.
Ezekiel Elliott has listed the Eagles as one of his three finalists to play for this upcoming season, ESPN reported Thursday. The New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals are also among Elliott’s finalists with the veteran tailback seeking a new destination following his release from the Dallas Cowboys earlier this winter.
The 27-year-old running back spent the first seven seasons in the NFL with the Cowboys after being drafted No. 4 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft Elliott, a former standout as the University of Ohio State, delivered a breakout rookie season by totaling 1,631 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns (both career highs in single season) in Dallas’ offense.
He has rushed for 1,000 yards in four of his seven NFL seasons, but since has seen his production dip with the Cowboys splitting Elliott’s time alongside Tony Pollard. 2022 marked the only season in Elliott’s career where he failed to register 1,000 or more all-purpose yards (968).
In total, Elliott has accumulated 10,598 all-purpose yards in the NFL along with 80 touchdowns. He’s also made three Pro Bowls, but none since 2019.
Pollard was franchise-tagged by the Cowboys this offseason while Elliott was released with four years remaining on his contract.
The Eagles have already added Rashaad Penny to the roster, but bid farewell to Miles Sanders, who proceeded to sign with the Carolina Panthers. Kenny Gainwell and Boston Scott also remaining running back options for the Eagles in 2023.
University of Texas standout Bijan Robinson has also been linked with the Eagles ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. Robinson ran a 4.46 40-yard dash the NFL Combine and is coming off a 1,580-yard, 18-touchdown haul with the Longhorns in 2022.
