The Philadelphia Eagles have bolstered their running back corps in the form of another University of Georgia Bulldog.
D’Andre Swift is on his way to the Eagles following a trade with the Detroit Lions, the team announced. The trade comes just two days after the Lions drafted Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
“A lot of credit goes to Brad Holmes, GM of the Lions, working through this with us and finding a solution there that we could both live with. Philly kid, St. Joe’s Prep, a kid that we know playing in high school. Obviously, followed him in college – tremendous player, tremendous person. Excited to get him to Philly,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said on ESPN moments after the trade was announced.
The move is a homecoming for Swift, who played at St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia before heading to Athens for his collegiate career.
Swift was a second round draft pick by the Lions in the 2020 NFL Draft and enjoyed decent success in Detroit over his three seasons there. The 24-year-old totaled 2,872 all-purpose yards and 25 touchdowns with the Lions, splitting time with other running backs during his three seasons.
Swift rushed for 542 yards and five touchdowns on 99 carries in 2022 for Dan Campbell’s offense.
His arrival in Philadelphia gives Nick Sirianni two new running backs to call on after Rashaad Penny’s arrival.
