Not only did the Philadelphia Eagles bolster their roster in a big way on Thursday night, but they also extended the contract of their top offensive playmaker.
Star wide receiver A.J. Brown signed a three-year contract extension with the Eagles, which will take him through the 2029 NFL season, the team announced. Brown was originally acquired by Philadelphia in a trade with the Tennessee Titans at the 2022 NFL Draft.
He has proceeded to remain as one of the NFL’s top wide receivers since his move from the AFC to the NFC.
Brown’s 1,496 receiving yards in 2022 broke a franchise record that originally stood for 38 years. He also totaled 11 touchdowns on 88 receptions, helping the Eagles reach the Super Bowl before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs.
2023 saw more of the same from Brown, who broke the Eagles’ single season mark for 106 receptions. He finished the campaign with 1,456 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, earning Second-Team All-Pro honors for the second-consecutive year. Brown also broke the NFL record by gaining at least 125 yards in six-straight games.
“We try to be proactive to try to keep this team together,” Eagles VP and general manager Howie Roseman said about Brown’s deal. “That starts with Jeffrey [Lurie] and his support like we talked about in our pre-draft press conference and just talking about the benefits of trying to keep it together as much as we possibly can. The only way we can possibly do that is by doing deals early. We felt like it was an opportunity to do that here with AJ. Obviously we’ve done a bunch of deals with a bunch of our players, and want to add to that and keep this team together as much as we possibly can.
“We couldn’t do that without his support in allowing us to do that,” he added. “We felt like the earlier we did that would be better for us and him. And him knowing that he was going to be here. He’s a great player. Captain of this team.”
After breaking onto the scene in Tennessee, Brown has become a premier face on the Eagles roster. The 26-year-old has formed one of the NFL’s strong 1-2 partnerships with DeVonta Smith, who also signed a contract extension earlier this offseason.
The Eagles will resume their NFL Draft selections on Friday night after drafting Toledo University cornerback Quinyon Mitchell with the No. 22 overall pick in Thursday’s first round.
